We relied on him at every step of the way: from determining scope, to outlining broad goals, to layout, to cabinet design, to stain and baseboard selection, and most importantly to his careful and diligent implementation of the changes to our house. We feel like we live in the same home with the same character, but transformed into a brighter, roomier, more functional space. Hire Mike if you want a contractor who: - Will take responsibility for the whole build or renovation. - Will provide time estimates that he can actually keep. - Will stay on budget, and let you know when your choices could send you over. - Will be creative about figuring out how to give you what you want. - Will do things right. Anecdote: A grumpy neighbour called the city, incorrectly claiming that the builders were improperly handling asbestos. The inspectors showed up in hazmat suits ready to shut down the build, and instead ended up complimenting Mike for having followed exactly the right procedure. Anecdote #2: A few years ago, we had Mike renovate our basement utility room. During that renovation, he realized the upstairs subfloor wasn't properly supported, and came to us with a plan to cheaply address that problem, explaining why it was important. Mike has a keen eye for substandard work, and a determination to make sure it is corrected. Mike does things the right way, but not just one way. Many, many times we had requests that weren't straightforward, and Mike would figure out a way to make them work. We love what he did with our home, and we'd recommend him to anyone who wants a diligent, cost-conscious, and creative contractor.”
