Tiled Floor Replacement - bamboo?
Comments (34)Here's a video of an area of water damaged bamboo being removed and replaced Joyzzz. Maybe you'll consider replacing the area in front of your fridge. Like you I also have bamboo in the kitchen (and pot plants throughout the house), but haven't had any issues with spills marking the floor. It's a shame there's so much variation in the manufacturing process resulting in some floors tolerating spills and others not at all. I do have a damaged board though thanks to a guest leaving a tap running causing an overflow...that I wasn't told about until days later, grrr. Fortunately the damage is in a shadowed corner and the sealer is still intact, so it isn't noticeable, just a wrinkled surface to the touch. Which is lucky, because our home is earth-covered and there is nowhere for water to drain out of the sub-floor as we "tanked" it with a sealer to ensure no moisture can make its way in. That board sat there in a puddle for days! I still wonder why only one board suffered damage, very strange......See MoreKitchen wall demo- do we put in high bench?
Comments (13)Thankyou so much for all the feedback and ideas. I really appreciate you taking the time to look at it. Annb1997 here’s a photo looking around to the other side of the wall. We have a big sliding door which will provide a good view out to the pool. There is currently a tall bookcase on the other side of the wall but I will move that elsewhere (not in the dining room). I may buy a low cabinet to go on the other side of the wall for storage down the track. My main reason for wanting to see the pool is to be able to see my kids in the pool whilst I’m in the kitchen (washing up, cooking etc). Plus I like the idea of being able to see through to the dining room instead of it being a more ‘closed off’ room. To the right of the dining room is a lounge room. The dining room is about 3mx3m. Down the track we’d like to do further renovations (ie. new kitchen, new flooring which would need to be done at the same time) but that may be years away till we have the money. So I was trying to be practical I suppose, and achieve what I want for a smaller price. However, I don’t want it to look stupid . Juliahocking - interesting idea about the 30cm slots.... you’ve got me thinking... I think that might look good, but I think I want a better view outside. Oklouise - I hadn’t thought of a window. Do you think that would be a more modern way of achieving what I want?...See MoreRemoving old kitchen floor coverings
Comments (2)I know of a few ways this can be done, but all depends on the job and what original adhesive was used. Water and vinegar method - allow the glue to become soft then try to pick off Acetone - let glue absorb then wipe off - careful with this as acetone will discolour your boards/remove varnish (could sand after to avoid) Warm water - wet some cloths and place them over the glued areas, allow to soften and then remove with cloth/pick off. Depending on the type of adhesive, you may be able to sand off - but beware that some adhesives will melt/clump and spread the issue further. Whatever you decide, I recommend getting a professional to come and view the works as they will be able to gauge the period it was done and thus the materials employed. Best of luck :)...See MoreShould I replace the floor tiles with floorboards or more tiles?
Comments (25)When it comes to kitchen design for a ranch house renovation, you may want to consider the following factors: Space and layout: Ranch houses typically have an open floor plan, so you can create a kitchen that flows seamlessly with the surrounding living areas. Consider the space available and the placement of windows and doors when deciding on the layout of your kitchen. Style: Ranch houses often have a mid-century modern or rustic aesthetic, so incorporate these design elements into your kitchen renovation. For example, you could use warm wood tones, clean lines, and vintage-inspired fixtures to create a timeless and inviting space. Storage: Adequate storage is essential in any kitchen, but it's especially crucial in a ranch house where storage space may be limited. Consider incorporating cabinets, shelves, and other storage solutions that maximize the available space without overwhelming the room. Lighting: Good lighting is essential in any kitchen, but it's particularly important in a ranch house where natural light may be limited. Consider incorporating a mix of ambient, task, and accent lighting to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Ultimately, the best kitchen design option for your ranch house renovation will depend on your specific needs and preferences. Consider working with a professional designer or architect to help create a space that meets your functional and aesthetic goals. You can contact house tiling services Sydney.
