Comments (4)There are two basic ways to construct this column. you can either construct a timber frame including posts and beams detailing the framed dimensions of a hollow column, then clad in a sheet bracing like a ply or blue board to become rigid. Then adhere a cladding stone to that. Depending on your budget, cladding stone can be in the form of stacked stone in tile sheets, or you can opt for a range of real stone options. Bowral offer an engineered stone that can clad a framed wall in this manner, you may also source genuine stone and have paving stone of say 50mm thick applied by a stonemason. the alternative is to construct a full stone pier, either with exposed joints, or to appear as a drystone construction. A stonemason needs to do this, and can do so around a structural post and beam configuration, allowing your parapet to cut through the pier as shown. Your timber framing regardless is done first, with the stonemason working to box in the structure, before finishing your blue board etc....See MoreNeed help with support for a Stone bench in an office situation.
Comments (12)Hi, I have just installed a long span stone bench with an 80mm edge detail for a kitchen bench. Because it was over span and very heavy, we had to support both the weight of the stone and the possibility that someone would sit on the kitchen bench (not something everyone considers). We just designed a steel tube frame to be concealed within the cabinetry and behind the fascia panel, bolted to the floor with a couple of horizontal bars to support the overhang. We used a 40 x 40 steel tube and I got a local welder to make it up for us. You wouldn't need that big a tube. In your case, the support required is quite substantial because of the overall span along two axis. You have a couple of options here... 1. put a leg in 2. use the brackets as your stone mason had shown 3. create a concealed frame (will require a thicker edge detail) spanning from the cupboards at either end and bolted to the wall at the back edge. It could be as simple as this and could probably be done out of 25mm x 25mm square tube. Cheers......See MoreStandard to designer range of stone... how much ?
Comments (11)Builders markups on upgrades can be large. Unfortunately it doesn’t matter a lot what we tell you if you’re locked into a building contract with your builder. You can’t get alternative quotes and you can’t supply your own. So it’s difficult. But for your own sanity check have a look at the benchtop pricing on diyaustralia.com. They have pricing for the different ranges of major benchtop suppliers on their site....See Moredreamer
