What about choosing a floor lamp to go in the right hand corner instead of it being on the tv unit? I'd say it would create a bit of glare if watching tv with it being there so that's my reasoning, I'm also a bit of a symmetry freak and it looks a bit unbalanced.. If it's an informal space where the kids hang out why not some bright accessories? The colours in the artwork could be a starting point- aquas/ lime green etc. maybe some chevron or bold pattern on the cushions?

I think you could get the telly put over the fireplace. Might need a mantle to deflect radiant heat, not sure. But on the cables and power, I imagine they can get that sorted. Im guessing there is a wall behind you when you took the photos. I agree that a low corner modular sofa would look great. Just don't get it so long that it is up against the fireplace wall. Placed into that corner of end and piano walls . Then pop your cute chair where the sofa is now. Large ( big enough for the sofa front legs sit on it, I'm guessing 2x3m or even 3x4m) patterned rug to define the area. Can you move the piano to another room or against the computer area wall? Can you make the small windowed room the homework hub? Imagine a long bench against the window ( Ikea do a good cheap range that you make to fit your space). Ensuring the computers are in line of sight from the kitchen(?). Pull out the table to give it more space around it. Or flip it to run the other direction. Hard to tell from the pics the dimensions. Paint a lighter shade as mentioned before. A sketch of your floorplan would be really helpful :)

1/ get Roman blinds for the windows installed onto the ceiling.. 2/ change the carpet to floor boards and a nice light rug.. 3/ repaint the room ..looks quite dark and creamy there 4/ get rid of the clutter by getting a built in unit for TV and do away with your tables and coverings 5/ keep the chest/trunk as a coffee table 6/ rearrange your lounge suite into an L shape.. 7/ if you really want to get rid of the lounge suite make it uncomfortable to sit on..I'd put slits into it accidentally lol the dogs fault? lol he'll come around or I'd pretend someone else needed it more than you so gave them away..lol that's how I get to buy new stuff for the apartment ..I slowly stow them to the beach house then from beach house they get given away lol
