Our Newly Renovated Kitchen/Dining

After almost 2 years of persistence and determination on our DIY Kitchen renovation in our 1950's home, it's finally done and dusted and we have some photos to share.
We knocked down the wall that separated the dining and the kitchen, the wall behind the stove which now opens to our living room which use to be bedroom behind that wall. We sold the old kitchen and replaced all the furniture's with some new and also refurbished a second hand dining table.
So far we're happy with the look and enjoying the ample light and open space...but most of all, making the most of my place of zen (the kitchen).

Comments (9)Having a closer look at the house, it could be possible to replace the small window next to your fireplace on the left with a door, and still enclosing the side if the garage, I would also install a timber balustrade form the original front door between all posts, so hat door could remain, but be within an enclosed walk corridor rather than wLk our onto a drive. The ballustrading could become a real feature, and be somewhat of an enclosed verandah if people were en lined to need fresh air, or may want to pollute it with a cigarette?? Either way, it will make better use of this side of the home, your windows are too beautiful to conceal and the light they bring in would be priceless. I think removing the brush front fence and installing a picket fence further beyond your front window could tie into the new balustrade m suggesting, and create a new front of house, and still enclose enough behind this feneline for a private and safe yard. I think I can see a timber gate or fence? This is where I would at a minimum put the new picket fence. Comments (19)I am clearly in the minority, but its a no for me- the gorgeous brick walls, doorway, character all lost - I think that a lighter touch would have given a much more tasteful, interesting and less generic result and allowed some of the house’s heritage to peek through a modern update. if the owners are happy though, that is what matters, their house, not mine...See MoreKitchen renovation help

Comments (37)Thanks Jeanne and Janet :) My kitchen is certainly earning its keep during lockdown here in Melbourne - excessive amounts of cooking and baking happening ;) The renovation was great practice for lockdown, with three of us confined to bedrooms and a makeshift kitchen for a few months while the house was dismantled around us.
