Being that's the case, maybe best to use light coloured tiles or laminate and take through to the ceiling as this makes the room feel open, if you stop tiles half way up the wall you are effectively creating a focal point half way up the wall zoning it into two halves.

Use semi-frameless glass and a large mirror allowing the light to bounce around the room as much as possible. Only add the mirror cup'd if you can recess it into the wall or it will look to busy within the room. Good luck renovating.

Just finished a major reno, i went for 300 x 400 tiles in both en-suite and main bathroom. I stuck with neutral going for stone coloured on the floor following up the wall of the shower and making the rest white and tiled all the way to the ceiling. Our ceiling is 2.4 and it makes it feel more spacious but going with a smaller tile may not work. I went for a fully frame less rolling shower door to save floor space. I could not recess a mirrored cabinet above vanity but at 10cm it dosent interfere to much. i matched the vanity and mirror laminate so its not to busy dearer option but i think it looks great and looks uniform. i didnt want blinds on my windows so went with frosted ( opaque) glass for a uncluttered look.

Great suggestions above... agree with floor to ceiling wall tiling in white (or a light colour)... agree with darker floor tiles in say a mid-dark grey... agree with larger format tiles, less grout and easier to clean... agree with semi-frameless shower screen, even frameless if budget allows... a wall-mounted toilet is a good idea too if plumbing, structure and budget allows, but a skirted toilet would also work and look nice... few more things I would suggest you consider:

- double sink vanity, really worth thinking how to configure the space to fit a double vanity, particularly if it's an ensuite to the master bedroom

- towel rails rather than hooks, even heated rails if you can, don't forget a wall space for them to reduce damp, particularly in a SE facing room

- niche in your shower walls for all your soaps, shampoo bottle, etc

Hello, the way to make the room feel bigger is to take out the ceiling up to the roof line and add an openable / remote operable roof window. Look at Fakro and Velux web sites. A bit of structural work to do in the roof but well worth the effort to achieve a light filled ventilated space. Ideally a " wet room " with no timber products and all stainless steel fittings. No chrome on base metal otherwise they will corrode in no time. If you can try and break through walls for the wall cabinet if there is a cupboard or robe behind this is also a space saving method. The window can be pushed out in a bay to enhance the space. Have not read much of the above but importantly remove all tiles, do not tile over old tiles. Waterproof the shower area walls before tiling. Don't take the glass shower screen to the floor, leave a gap and stand the glass on a stainless steel balustrade foot. Angle or channel fix the other edge to the wall. No need for a door on a wet room. Vanity cabinets are available in plastic but change the screws to stainless steel. Ideally no base cabinet and have a wall recessed cabinet as mentioned above. Don't think outside the square, think outside the box.
