Comments (320)mforr - It's funny you should mention that, because I just looked at the map of queens, trying to remember the name of the highway that went thru a friend's neighborhood like that .. and I think they renamed it! There used to be an "Interboro Parkway", and now it's called the "Jackie Robinson Parkway"! Wikipedia says it was renamed in 1997 .. who knew?! "The Jackie Robinson Parkway is a 4.95-mile (7.97 km) parkway in the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens. The western terminus of the parkway is at Jamaica Avenue in the Brooklyn neighborhood of East New York. It runs through Highland Park, along the north side of Ridgewood Reservoir, and through Forest Park. The eastern terminus is at the Kew Gardens Interchange in Kew Gardens, Queens, where the Jackie Robinson Parkway meets the Grand Central Parkway and Interstate 678."...See MoreWould you consider building a home using Passive Solar Design?
Comments (50)After I had finished my Archi Masters I was working for an architecture firm who also did a small amount of work for a volume builder. They were actually a pretty good quality builder and at least got the orientation of their 'pre-designed' plans correct. We had the ability to make minor changes to every job and it pained me to see so many simple to implement passive options not being incorporated. Had most of their clients known that they would be saving MONEY over the longterm by making a few minor changes to suit their site, they all would have done it. The problem is unless someone can sell this idea to them as a financial/lifestyle choice, many just think it is about saving the world. It is a no-brainer if you have in interest in it, but for those who don't know, there is no-one there selling it to them, especially on the lower end of the market....See MoreIndoor plants: yay or nay?
Comments (38)The parlour palm is the most reliable palm for indoors .. Plants add exponentially to the indoors effect and personality, as has been said many times over, however as with anything, ideally should be placed/chosen tastefully and not in a hodge-podge or messy looking fashion. Unhealthy looking plants are particularly unattractive .....See MoreYay or Nay? Tinsel
Comments (7)I love it's sparkle, but there are more opulent ways to get that nowadays. It can be messy, but nothing fills an empty tree with the colour of Christmas quite like it. Just like the poll ATM, I can side for or against. My tip...use it to stuff the inside of your tree branches before decorating with your baubles and ornaments, that way, you can have a slight glimseof shimmer lit from within against your lights, and reveal enough background colour to really highlight your decorations. Almost as if trying to hide it amongst your branches, you really only want to see as little as possible, and once you decorate, you'll be amazed how much it still adds to the finished result. This is great to do while you are slowly filling your tree with expensive ornaments, and when you get enough of those you can remove the tinsel altogether. I haven't needed tinsel for years now, but it was there when I needed it....See More- 11 years ago
