Plus Im not sure if I should do the wall behind tv with wallpaper or white timber panels?
Gee its so hard & I want to get it right..

11 years agoHi Jo, looks like contemporary country with a classic twist. Don't get too stuck on the tags and go with your heart. It seems that wall is asking for some attention so is wallpaper an option?

Are the curtains staying or not? I like your lounge chairs and if you add a padded ottoman,it will help to soften the look. Are you keeping the patterned curtains as they are a more country/traditional pattern? Is the rug staying too as I feel a larger one would fit the furniture better plus a larger floor lamp or feature light.

With the new tv cabinet you could have a mural or decals which are removable and will add something nice to break up the white or even painting the wall charcoal could work too.

Comments (20)remove the table under the TV, place it on the dresser in the corner but on a diagonal tilt so it can be seen clearly from the couch. The lamp just looks wrong - I would remove that all together and replace it with a large Pot Plant to soften the corner. Nick Nacks etc can only be chosen by you as you have to like them but I would go for something either antique to match the lovely ornate fireplace or modern like gold, silver, brass glass. I would replace the ceiling light fitting with something modern matching the colours of your Nick Nack's. I am not a fan of the mirror I would place a large mirror on the wall that is currently utilised by the TV - this will reflect the light from the windows - again use the colours of your Nick Nacks and new light fitting for the mirror frame or go entirely frame-less. I would then find a large / modern piece of art to place above the mantel. Obviously my choices / ideas come with no budget in mind but you don't have to do everything at once..... spread the cost if you need to do it all bit by bit. The budget that was put into our build (by the builder) makes hardwood floors an extra $23k. Although the 600 x 600 are expensive to lay it still comes in at less than half the price including bathrooms. We had hardwood in our last house, I liked it but it scratched and dented with chairs and kids dragging their sandy bikes inside. i am worried that I will choose the tile and hate the cleaning and potential slippery accidents in summer but I worry about the look of karndean....... is it very plasticky? I have some samples but it's very hard to tell from such a small piece. Is the tile we have chosen too 'busy' for all areas? Comments (22)A round coffee table/tables similar to the above photo would look great, two things, would you consider moving your side board back next to the end of the leather lounge this would mean swaping the lamp and the circle wall hanging over and placing a floor lamp on the floor in that corner. Then the lamp next to the sofa could be used for reading and also give softer lighting to your room instead of the ceilin lights. Also your lounge appears to be made up of two sections, a two and a three seater or two x three seaters, could you move the section under the window along towards the door which would allow for a low square table with lamp in that corner. The small corner of the "L" would look lovely with full length curtains, floor lamp and arm chair with side table, your dining table appears to be on the other side of that window? Jo, it depends on what you are wanting to keep or replace and your budget and your priorities. I do see scattered furniture but a theme that is mostly provincial in one way or the other. I know your kitchen is also a project at the moment with a similar theme.
If your budget could stretch to custom wall of cabinets it would give you options to replace the little desk you currently have to put a tall lamp behind lounges. Curtains staying?You could add a large coffee table or an ottoman as I suggested earlier and while art is nice I think you need to make the best use of that wall & get the basics right in the room. I don't like furniture up against wall if the space can suit and you could easily fit either ottoman or chair.

Have a look at the removable murals for the whole wall. There are so many from photographic to traditional to contemporary etc. Then the decals (like the birdcages) which are removable and can add a bit of a change without being major purchases. What you have is very warm & welcoming so your furniture is fine and it sounds like you just need a refresh for now.
What about a beautiful pot with a palm in it won't cost much.

HaHa! You've got the right idea to wait & ask for help. Money is too hard to come by to waste and it will be better waiting rather than suffer a poor choice.
One more tip you can layer rugs these days, it's most acceptable & means you can keep the one you've got & just enhance it.
