If you could change ONE thing in your garden...
Comments (8)Hi Angela, great idea to plant a tree! We lived in Alice Springs for 6 years and found that a couple of shade trees made such a huge difference to our enjoyment of being out in the garden, We loved being outside for breakfast and later in the day/early evening. We noticed that Chinese Elm trees grew well and relatively quickly and we had a fast growing Mullberry tree there too, (although the fruit do stain when you tread on them). Brazilian Peppercorn trees grow very fast there too, but become a huge bush if you don't keep pruning them to the shape you want as they grow. I love that you're planting natives too, as they attracted birds to our garden, along with the trees. Murrayas are a lush green 2-3 metre fast growing shrub which thrive in Alice too. We planted several after realizing they grow there in full sun and/or part shade. They have white flowers with a beautiful perfume....See MoreShow us your garden in spring!

Comments (28)next step is to weed the common area on our side as I want to plant rose bushes..want to get some Mr Lincoln in for scent..we had them at our old place and the scent was just heaven..great for cuttings as well .. we got permission from our neighbours to deck the common area..as it leads to our side..more for cosmetic than anything as we don't have time to weed lol roses will go in..not sure what to do about the steps as yet...See MoreYour WINTER GARDEN
Comments (83)@wuff Oh yes, the birds (and bees) are having a great time in the garden right now. I saw a group of five rather large and therefore quite heavy wattle birds trying to take nectar from the pink grevillea flowers on the end of the long spikes (2nd photo). The stems were twanging about like great springs and the birds were being flung all over the place, but holding on determined to stay put. Great antics to watch....See More- 10 years ago
