do not put an external ducted dryer in a cupboard unless you plan to replace the cupboard very soon after you discover the horrible wet mildewed, possibly dangerous, result...only the manufacturer should be able to advise about this option. I'm very happy with a condensor dryer that sits nicely under my 60cm deep counter and only has warm dry air vented out the front .. great for keeping the room warm and also helps with drying clothes on an overhead rack...Manufacturers of washers and dyers should have on line installation instructions and/or contact details so you can obtain written confirmation of sizes and amount of space needed and/or some condensor dryers and washing machines can be stacked so the under counter option wouldn't be necessary and any difference in depth not so obvious

Keep ringing around, try the local paper. We had trouble finding a cabinets maker for a larger job. They all seem to be caught up in the apartment building boom.

yes there is space for a stacked washer/dryer combo or washer with wall mounted dryer. There is also a small amount of room for an overhead cabinet or shelf (which we wont put in initially to keep flexible). I think the market will likely be midlife downsizers like us or holiday home given location (we are eastern beaches in Noosa), possibly not enough land for a young family unless they want low maintenance.. Thank you for feedback everyone....its still a tricky decision....so please keep ypur thoughts coming in

great idea but keep in mind that if the bottom of the machines is 90cm off the floor the standard top controls would be at about 1.8m..would it be more comfortable for the machines to be raised a little lower? ...some of the manufacturers offer a WM stand with drawer that might be worth considering as the machines might be too heavy for standard cabinets and condensor dryers are recommended to be on the floor because they're too heavy to be raised but, to answer your question, the standard waste pipe is already higher than the drains so there shouldn't be any problem with a raised installation but check with the manufacturers of the machines for specific written advice to show the plumber (eg you may need a longer hose?) and talk to your builder and plumber to make sure that your special installation is written into your contract as it's easy for any variation from standard to be overlooked
