I would look at a linen look same as wall, Ikea could have just what you want I think your curtain rod most likely expands as well so would look to widen the rod and then if the curtain allows hang it higher. You might need to move the family photos then perhaps across to where the print is and remember, eye height, I like your timber cabinet, white could look too stark without changing others things, try the curtains first and see what you think. cheers.

try mounting the tv on the same wall, add brackets to secure any cabinets to the wall and toddlers are usually OK with stairs after you teach them to go down steps on their bottoms

Hi Kate - it's a single solid brick wall and actually the power and aerial lines are on the adjacent external double brick wall. I want to run the cables along the single brick wall horizontally until under the tv and then run vertically up to where i want the new power socket and new aerial connection. I won't touch the electrics but if i can have a chase already cut and ready to receive a conduit and cable then it will save a lot of time and expense. Likewise i am hoping there is no restriction on me running the aerial cable myself. Am I actually allowed to cut a chase myself or does that need a tradie? Once the cables are in I would make good the plaster Thanks
