Old faithful: What's your longest surviving appliance?
Comments (18)The old Sunbeam appliances seem to last well! Growing up, we had Sunbeam egg cooker with black bakelite lid - still works. My sister has old sunbeam mix-master and my Nanna had same the toaster Tilly has. I know it was still working mid-90's. Not sure where it is now......See Morewhat is normal width for an kitchen island?
Comments (6)Ours is 950 and 2.4m long.I think as far as looks go, it depends how long the island is. If it's a very long island and less than 900, it would look out of proportion. Likewise, if it's a very short one, it would look wrong to have the width any more than 1m wide....See MoreVoid over fridge?
Comments (37)To Nicole K..OOOOOOH That sounds really classy! Why didn't anybody come up with that earlier on? I don't drink...but just for the decorator touch, if I had that fridge and that space, I'd get the calssiest alcohol shelving and fill it with the most elegant bottles available......suppose the real thing would cost a mint...so I'd hunt for the bottles and fill them with the appropriately coloured liquid...food colouring dye and water ought to do it. Maybe just one real bottle....my brandy for the upset tum. What a good idea!...See MoreDecor ideas for this cabinet nook
Comments (19)Agree with some of the ideas already mentioned of artwork (maybe 3 small framed prints or photos hung vertically given the light you intend to install?) to fill the wall space, tiered stand with fruit, cook books on one shelf and the other can be used for storing stationery, mail etc using a stacked set of drawers (some nice ones available at the stationery/office suppliers). You can hang removable hooks inside the door for keys. I'm not a fan of having "stuff" (papers, keys) on bench tops as it quickly turns into a dumping area and in a thoroughfare, things end up on the floor as people rush past. Best of luck - your kitchen is gorgeous by the way!!...See More- 9 years ago
