Help with unusual ideas for kitchen drawer and cupboard fronts
Comments (5)I meant to say earlier.. I LOVE what you're doing with this house! There may be a few products of interest in this [article[(https://www.houzz.com.au/magazine/12-hot-kitchen-trends-set-to-sizzle-in-2016-stsetivw-vs~53600916). (Namely, Neolith and textured laminex.) What dimension are the drawer fronts? I don't know how practical tile would be but there are such thin ones on the market now and large format also. So possibly could one tile for entire drawer front??? This is example of a vinyl wallpaper that looks like grass cloth. My hesitation with something like this is if overly textured, it will become a grease trap. Example of burlap between glass....See MoreHelp! Fixing weird floorplan
Comments (21)Hi Lyn, there are some good ideas above, however I mainly agree with the suggestions to live there for a while to get a feel for the site and to save some money for the renovation. My biggest piece of advice is to get a good designer involved when you are ready to renovate, as it definitely looks like one was not involved in the previous renovations! I see the main challenge of the new design when you are ready to proceed will be to tweak the orientation of the living /kitchen/dining zone - as the living room looks like it is currently on the south side of the house- to maximise sunlight, garden and pool views, and resolve the planning issues of the bedroom areas. And for when you are ready - and because I can't resist giving design advice - I would aim to relocate 2 bedrooms and your wish for a larger main bathroom - to the south living area. You could create a master suite out of a slightly shorter bed 3 and the current bathroom, with the current main bed reducing in size and becoming a walk-in robe. That way with a small tweak all the north spaces can become living /dining spaces, possibly moving out the middle glazed wall slightly . Double-glazed windows would be important to control noise on the main road side of the house. If you keep the kitchen and existing bathroom roughly in the same place and with 'middle' quality materials, it should be relatively economical to build the new walls and linings and remove the poorly-located ensuite, and you will have much better daylight and all-important connection to the garden and patio. However of course this is all budget dependant, and a good designer will help you manage your overall project budget and match it to your brief. Good Luck!...See MoreHelp: Improve street appeal with no front door
Comments (9)Have to agree with Oklouise, keep side entry as is but define with new paving within carport leading up to the front door.,Add clear roofing next to house leading to entry, large pots and good directional lighting for night time to draw you to the front door. I would remove the large plant on the left of the carport to open up the entrance. Mark walkway to front door with paving, paint or render the bedroom wall at the end of the carport add a light and large pot of succulents which are easy care and will love the light coming through the new roof Paint and update the exterior of the carport Opening roof by Stratco Outback, or Vergola Pergola to let light in over entrance way...See MoreFront of house help. Comments (14)Thanks for your help so far.. I have had some chats with the builder, he said it's not prefarable to remove the top section and put window to match others, as you'll be spending alot more money doing that on something that you may be able to cover and not notice. I woke up this morning with an idea. What about if I move the front door to meet the middle of the porch (this has been something commented on before on here, how the door is really tucked away and not noticeable enough) , do some panelling or rendering in a dark blue/charcoal colour. Then use that same effect where the sliding door is surrounding it, including to the top. I have done a little mock up so present my ideas... I could even do the same on the front window to carry the theme, or that might be overkill, i think it probably is..... Rendering would obviously be the easiest, or even just painting those sections of the brick... Don't want it to look too higgledypiggledy....See Morejazimova
