Comments (25)Seriously? Lack of understanding of the authentic original period architecture. This is neither fish nor fowl and so overcooked. Less is more people. The best results in renovations/refit scenarios are always those that are inherently sympathetic, taking cues from the existing space or original style, and tying in. It can be successful taken either in a contemporary direction or restoring accurately, BUT regardless of what it is it needs to be BALANCED, rather than the mess like here which is a case of arbitrarily applying an excess of random foreign design and style elements. People (including interior pros) need to stop trying to be "on trend" for the sake of it or thinking we must have "features' or 'hero' elements. Sometimes the best and most clever architectural results are those that promote LESS attention to it......but enduring and classic outcomes requires subtlety and capacity to confidently filter stylistic choices without being influenced by the noise of the latest interiors magazine or Pinterest post....See MoreBest roof line design for small extension on existing house
Comments (4)i can't read the dimensions to be more accurate but depending on the difference between the location of the nth wall of the living room and the north wall of the laundry the new roof could be continuous and a portico would be the same either way but there might need to be an extra space.. like a verandah or extended eve to make the roof shape simpler...See MoreBest house design for teenage kids
Comments (18)My teenagers seem to come and go at all hours so think about the placement of the main bedroom and whether you want to hear them coming in and leaving. It helps if the bedroom is large enough for a bed, desk and chillout area but they will survive without. You definitely need 2 living areas as you will never agree on what to watch haha! However, mine retreat to their rooms to stream off the laptop mostly. Often they all like to pile in to one room together so if a second living room is in the budget, I would recommend. I would have liked a better bathroom - ours was bath/shower/vanity in 1 room and toilet separate. If I designed, i would have toilet with washbasin, wet room for shower and bath and vanity room with basin, mirror and lots of storage. i would design a large flat undercover area and try to avoid nooks and crannies around the yard (safety at parties). Or design the garage to look like a room, with painted floor and have all your storage in a separate room/shed. We have never had a pool but they all loved the outdoor fire and we had a pool table which was popular. We had a living room connecting on to the outdoor area so we could keep an eye on things without hovering. When they were young, I hated that our bedroom was at the other end of the house to theirs however, now that we like to go to bed early and they are up late, i do appreciate that separation!
