Also, you want a complete reconstruction, or a makeover, ie painting, etc?

Is that split bamboo cladding on the wall, or some cypress pine? Clearer photos would make it easier to make suggestions.

It looks like wood cladding to me.

Think one neutral colour for walls and ceiling.Get rid of bamboo! You can use a slightly darker colour on fireplace, adding sand or a rough filler to get a slightly bagged look. Think 3's for (a) a trio of small prints above mantle, and chairs and sofa around fireplace. If you don't intend to use it, paint a plywood screen and block it off. Move TV . And remove hooks for aprons, the aprons and the junk on the mantlepiece!

I'm sorry your wall was bad, but the wood has not improved it - not with the current colour scheme. So... my suggestion is to render the bricks in a neutral warm gray/mushroom, remove the apron hangers, change the light switch to a wood tone, paint the rest of the room in the same colour as the bricks but in several shades lighter.

OR...

Loose the wood & re-plaster the wall, paper this area with a lovely print, still render the bricks in a colour picked from the wallpaper, paint the room in a lighter shade of the render. Paint door, skirting, window & trims same as render.

Is that a door or cupboard on lower right hand side? It is hard to tell from the pic so can't suggest what to do with that corner.

Thanks for your photos. I've spent hours fixing the fireplace. Grey walls and ceiling is my idea too. I'm looking for ideas on fixing wood panels cleaning before paintwork.
