Changing the curtains to a white or cream that matches the rug would look great, then match the cushions on your lounge to your curtains, and add in a splash of colour on the walls. If you want to keep the curtains that's fine. The rug is gorgeous but you need to flatten it out with piles of books so you can't see where it's been folded. Use cushions with a circle on them to match the curtains. If you hang a painting it needs to have the colours of the cushions, curtains in it. Try to find cushions with a circle pattern with at least one colour the same as your curtains. Buy a cheap canvas from the reject shop, Use the same colours of your cushions and curtains to paint circles on the painting. Draw the circles with a compass. Then paint circles on the canvas that match the curtains and the colours you have decided to use as the cushions. I think the curtains have restricted your colour use so if you don't want to replace them with something plain use the curtain and cushion colours. The rule is either 3, 5 or 7 colours. Cheap and easy . Remember to prime the canvas with white paint before you start. Another way is to cover the canvas with a wall paper that has circles the same colour as your curtains or cushions. You don't need to paper the edges just the front. Laura Ashley has some gorgeous wall papers and so does Hauzz. It's not difficult and would match the colours you have alraedy in your home.

I'm hoping if you just measure the floor wall to wall it is the same as other end of room ie 3800mm. (I added the 3 measurements in your drawing and get 3610mm too but architraves may vary it so floor measurement is good. Just hoping you have the same width to make the space comfortable and workable. Wow you do have a large home! So for dining I think a beautiful rectangle table to suit the proportions of the room. A round one needs to be at least 1500mm diameter for six chairs and wouldn't fill the space much. That would leave 1100 ish around the table each side which is okay but may look better with say 21-2500 x 1000 rectangle which seats 8 to 10 and leaves 1400mm room around each side or less if offset for buffet unit against wall. It would probably still leave room for a couple of occasional chairs & small table for casual seating near the kitchen. One thing I harped on to my hubbie about during our reno was the "luxury of space" and you don't need to fill it up...he get's it now. What are you doing with the ceiling beams? Painting them out would help modernise the space too I think. I'm not sure about the bricks yet but would love to see a picture of the empty room. Are you doing without a kitchen during this process?

Hi the area from the fridge to the deck is 2.6 metres and the area from the side window to the couch is 3 metres (note there is a sliding door to the deck next to the couch also)

Hi Claire, I would go with a large round mirror, Kmart have an 80cm one for $30, I have one and it’s just gorgeous and the price is amazing,being round adds a bit more glamour and a more modern look, it’s easier to display beautiful items on the buffet, try Temple and Webster, Freedom, that white tassie oak is on Ebay, a more contemporary buffet would look great with your other cabinets in your kitchen.
