Lost for a kitchen splashback

I am lost in regards to what I do for the kitchen splashback. I don't want to go glass or mirrored as it is too expensive. There is a lot of light that enters the living area as I have large windows. This picture was taken at night.
I would really appreciate some sound advice. I am currently thinking of using the same floor tile (but in a smaller form factor) as the kitchen splashback. Note I have black box looking light fittings to go above the island bench. So colours I am planning to have together (and some of them are seen in the photo) are black, white, wood and green in the form of plants and the window frames are a storm front colour which is a dark dark grey with a hint of green.

Comments (14)Just letting you know that a metal pressed splash back is only suitable if powder coated or left galvanized. It does not meet regulations when painted as the paint is not fire rated. Powder coating is. If you do it yourself, no one will know, but it is likely to dis-colour, blister or even singe! Powder coating does not make it easier to clean. But if you were really concerned about cleaning it you would avoid it all together. The recommendations above solve that easily. At the end of the day, a gloss finish will make spraying and wiping the grease, steam and fat away easily than a satin or Matt surface. Comments (14)I have seen black sinks done and they were nice and gave me second thoughts, but after consideration I was happy to keep to stainless in my new kitchen. What gives me concern is you have black in your appliances and sink that could give the finished result a very patchy look - depends on how everything is laid out. I too, was going to choose a glass spashback but at the last minute changed my mind as I was worried it would look a little too bland. Instead I chose pale glass mosaic tiles - not cheap - but I am now so happy I did, they just look amazing, are the real focal point of the kitchen and get endless compliments. They change colour through the day according to the light or reflect other things on the bench or even my clothing, to give the kitchen a different look every time I walk into it. Comments (15)I have just chosen my kitchen and family room colours and decided to stick to white floors, cabinetry, green glass painted white splashback which gives a lovely soft green colour and shitake ceaserstone benchtops. Once this is installed I will bring in colour with vases and accessories. Main concern is any colour you bring in will date quickly and you will get tired of it. if you keep it simple you can dress it up. You will need to be careful with a white splashback as you already have a lot of white cabinetwork and often if you have two white materials adjacent to each other one of them often looks dirty, or too yellow, as you won't get a perfect match.
Here is a photo of a similar tile to yours being used as floortile and a splashback to a bar and the look is understated, elegant, and won't detract from your warm timber.

8 years agoI have used a dark mirror in the past and it came out amazing. Easy to clean and opened the room up as you would expect.
