home office Lighting Design Dilemma

home office lighting help

Need help with lighting for home office. I was originally thinking a white drum hanging pendant but it will block the gallery wall. Thoughts on an open orb chandelier over the desk?

Also, walls look green in photo but are actually BM chelsea grey.

You will need an bright overhead light and a desk light. The overhead is best if on the dimmer. Wow, I wish I only needed a small desk and shelf when I worked from home.

This is going to be a great office! As you get your desk situated, don't forget cord management. I like these for a "floating" desk as others here have suggested you do. Do you like color? If so, maybe a soft butter yellow storage cabinet for printer and other electronics you don't have room for but don't necessarily want exposed on your existing bookcase. I am not sure if you already have a rug or not, but if you don't, here is a suggestion: Now that I'm going wild here, if you wanted some curtains to soften up the windows, you may want to try something like this: For your desk, try these fun accessories for inspiration: You could put a happy pillow on your chair for back support and visual interest: And a fresh new trashcan / wastebasket. Also have a dual purpose room. We did inexpensive white shelving units around two walls, with fabric boxes to stash stuff, (office, and my "crafty" supplies), threw in a few decorative items. Got a tall basket for rolled up mats/foam roller storage, a complementary lower basket to throw in the requisite elastic bands, small hand weights, etc. Decorated walls with pics from our travels, framed with colored mats.

That light is very pretty. I don't know if the 3 arm would be bright enough, it might be, but the 6 arm should give enough light.

Nicola Interiors- I like that idea, but I am unsure how large the drum should be. The room is 9ftx11.5ft and 9ft ceiling.

What kind of business do you run from this spot? I assume from the family pix on the wall, you may be a photographer. If you are a pro in another field, I don't think the massed family gallery is appropriate, unless you never have clients here. I've always opted for table and floor lamps rather than overhead lighting in my offices. They make it so much more inviting and eliminate the industrial vibe that some office ceiling lights put out. People tend to open up when the room feels more like home, which lamps tend to do.

Decorenthusiast- The gallery wall is for family pictures. Office is for my marketing business, but will never have clients here. We currently have a floor lamp and looks out of place.

recessed lighting or a semi-flush mount. or both

similar room like yours

these diffused drum lights don't give enough light. install recessed if you go this route

Beth H- I really don’t want to invest in recess lighting, but I like the look of semi flush drum. What if I did the drum with a desk lamp? The office is mainly used during the day and gets tons of natural light.

that would work. just make sure if you get a drum light, that it has either 3-60W bulbs or 2 bulbs that can accept up to 100w (with the LED lights, you can actually use the brighter bulbs because they use little wattage. )

i have a bedroom that size and went with a 16" (measuring across the bottom) . nothing bigger. 13-16" would be fine.

Stick to your guns if you want that drum but consider an open drum to not obstruct your art. Similar to these.
