I chose the wrong light, please help!

Hi Houzzers!
I have been searching for a unique, but classy light for our small back entrance. I found a pretty crystal empire chandelier, but after installing it, not only is it slightly big (I may have been blinded by its charm) but I now think it doesn’t quite fit in with our home.
I feel so silly choosing the wrong light, but I would love your help and input so I don’t make the same mistake. I’m hoping to re-home this light and get one that suits it better.
I’ve attached some photos of the current light and some of our house, including the copper shoe rack by the door I made. The back entrance ceiling is quite high (approx 14 feet) and the walls are white. We have more of a classic but eclectic decor (something not super trendy and will go out of style, but also something unique).
Please help choose a light for our back entrance, and I would be super grateful!

Comments (15)Ok are we talking architectural designer or interior designer? Architects are more about lines and form and they grumble about the interior designers but that's who they hire to do the color boards. Either way you are the client and it's your house. It may be a great color scheme for the design but if you don't like it change it. Those sample of paint are worth every penny because you need to see more than a little chip. With your asymmetrical design you have room to vary more than the usual field or base color and a contrasting trim. I'd make a tracing of the design and copy a bunch of pages of it to use as a coloring book. (yes use crayolas:-) Another shade from the same shale grey paint chip and a one more accent color would be a good bet. If you are going subtle neutral, make it 3( not 50) shades of grey and play with where you put the darks and lights. Remember sunlight and shadows will create alot of contrast for even a "pale monochrome houses. (the computer rendering doesn't give you that.) You could add a pop a smoky teal, plum or coral if you want color as bold as you design. These would just be accents or trim. If shale grey it a really light silver you could make a monochromatic scheme with blue grays and a navy blue door and trim. The tan/beige in the rendering needs a darker grey to work. I would keep my midtone color on the lower level and a lighter shade on the second level. The top part that pop out could be a bolder accent color withe rest of the upper level almost white. Lot depends on your roof and window frames and whether you want them to blend in or pop out. Comments (12)I would be inclined to go with an unobtrusive light since it's the living room and anything too dramatic or a hanging pendant may interfere with your peripheral vision (or otherwise be an annoyance) when you're watching TV, etc. Also, being so near the sliding door, the wind may cause a hanging pendant to swing quite a bit which will cause the lighting to be constantly shifting and changing which I would personally find annoying. I'd go with something simple and subtle, but look at getting a tall standing lamp for the corner near the sofa (or possibly at the other end of the floating TV cabinet). In terms of warming up the apartment, I think you need something on the bare walls. A smaller picture above the floating TV cabinet will help to take the focus off your TV. A larger art work behind the sofa will also help to add some colour and personality, especially if it picks up some hues from your sofa. If you don't like the little Buddha statue, I would look at adding one or two other items that you do like (perhaps picking up colours from the wall art) and making a little vignette. A couple of colourful cushions and a storage solution for the wires, games console, etc on the floor would also help to bring everything together. Comments (51)Sounds like a very stressful situation! If there is absolutely no way the builder will allow you to change things (even if they did, I imagine they would ask you to foot the entire bill of pulling the tiles down and replacing all water proofing in addition to new tiles), I can make a few suggestions for improvement. Firstly I would suggest replacing the tiles above the vanity with a white mosaic, a patterned or a textured feature tile/strip. You could also use this same tile to replace the vertical feature in the shower. There are some beautiful shapes and sizes available to choose from. Secondly I would address the grout situation in this way: Floor - dark colour grout & Walls - Light colour grout. Lastly if it does not prove too difficult or expensive, maybe replace the tiles below the vanity with a plain white tile (could be similar size). 5 years agoThe Empire might work in a more toned down look with wood beads, Still keeping Satin nickel to compliment the existing drum semi-flush. I may agree that a Simpler design might be bast.

Not sure what size you need, but they're all over the place as far a price goes...From Ikea to custom metalwork....You could even diy one. And you can take your existing drum light and add a copper touch to coordinate the two...
I honestly think that with a light fixture so high up, nobody will know if it's real copper (expensive) or not...unless they bring a ladder to your house, in which case they need to leave, pronto.

5 years agolast modified: 5 years agoI love the shoe rack. Here's my suggestion for a light fixture. Kind of eclectic, kind of vintage.
Keep all the cool things you have and decorate your house around them. Love to see a room with plants, classic made in the USA blankets and a piano. Those are the things that make your space interesting. There are a lot of soulless rooms pictured on Houzz.
