Help with kitchen colours please?

Comments (9)Hi Sofia I definitely think brick lay would work better on the walls in the bathroom purely because you have a 30x30 on the floor and a 30x60 on the wall. You will find the tiles could look out of place trying to stack them. It would be a different matter if they did not share 1 or more dimension. You could hang your mirror so it covered about 1/4 of the "floor tile" and 3/4 of the white above the centre of the sink. Alternatively, tiling the entire back wall with the "floor tiles". The first option may make the bathroom feel smaller if the shower takes up more than 1/3 of the back wall. Love your painted feature wall, just gives the room the lovely soft highlight. As much as I love all the timber vanities in bathrooms at the moment and so many bathrooms have them I’m scared that will date within the next few years. I wonder if I could add timber somewhere for warmth in a decor item? Something that’s not a permanent fixture? I’m trying to stay classic, simple and timeless and something that will appeal to people should we sell down the track. Comments (6)I don't think you can get a 'cookie cutter' answer . You'd need to look at , and know about , the room as a whole . My initial thought would be the longer wall as the feature -- you look at it as you enter , and its the plainest , whereas the toilet itself may be strong enough to be a feature , likewise so may be the vanity , especially with the mirror amd tapware etc . But there are so many other possibilities -- for example , I wouldn't want the whole longer wall in white subways ( sort of like Julie Herberts 2nd pic ) but it may look great in the green tiles of pic 1 , especially with say a strong toilet and a pine vanity and pine framed mirror ! Likewise , 3 or even 4 walls in a classy but slightly understated wallpaper may look great ( or 3 in wallpaper and 1 in complimentary tiles , for example ) , but with a plastic basin in a $60 vanity and a $99 toilet , maybe not so flash haha ....See More

Before you think about what you can add to your space, may I make some suggestions for room configuration first?
I have attached four possible layouts to make the space feel more inviting as you enter.
The first image moves the TV onto the right wall, instead of being cramped next to the heater. The three seater couch is moved a little higher into the room, to be facing the TV. While there is less walking space between couches, I feel that this arrangement promotes opportunities to gather, communicate, use the fireplace and watch tv. However, the TV unit will be the first thing your eye is drawn towards as you enter the room.
The second image (which I think will work for your space the most) puts the tv unit on the far left wall. Your three seater is then moved opposite, and your two seater is moved on an angle, to create a usable seating area that can use both the TV and Fireplace at the same time. Now the first thing your eye is drawn towards are your couches when you walk in the door.
The third image uses the same layout as your current configuration, however you are bringing your two seater forward into the room more (so it’s not squashed against your sideboard)
I couldn’t see from your photos whether the TV unit will fit flat against your wall? Where possible it is better to have the unit flat, and the TV moved on an angle for viewing, rather than having the whole unit on an angle.
The fourth image shows your current layout, but again, brings the couches closer together in the space.
My vote is for layout two or one, over layout three or four for your space.

For your back wall, I would add three large frames, and rearrange the things on your shelf to look like this:
Turn tissue box length ways and move the bowl closer. (If possible find a timber tissue box holder?)
Lean three artworks against the wall.
Move the rattan balls closer to your candlesticks.
It looks like you might have the beginnings of tropical style? Based on your decor in the room. So bringing in greenery to your space in your artwork and furnishings might work to unify this space.

Hanging artwork directly above the couch helps to tie everything together.

Then placing a large print on the left of your fireplace and a trailing plant (for when the heater is not in use) will further tie the place together.

As Julie said, art is such a personal taste. It’s about bringing the main colour of whichever artwork you choose and using those colours in your cushions and decor items.

If you do a search for the colour and style of artwork you are after (eg. abstract, realism, photography, landscape etc) you should be able to find some great inspiration.
