need help with colour ideas for this kitchen update!
Hi, I am doing some small updates to this kitchen and need help with colours! I am replacing the tile bench top with laminate, removing the double oven and putting in a single oven with microwave cavity above it, and repainting the cabinetry. So far my ideas are:
Benchtop: dark grey laminate
Cabinetry: paint semi-gloss white
Rangehood canopy: finish polishing ( it is pressed brass). Paint the feature tiles on it white.
Door knobs: change to brass knobs or handles to match the canopy
Flooring: laying vinyl plank over tiles
Splashback: unsure, maybe white subway tiles.
Let me know if you have any better ideas or colour combinations!

This was what our kitchen looked like before we bought the house, we removed the brick partition on the right along with everything else, we still have the copper range hood, saving it for the BBQ. I not an expert but you won't successfully be able to lay your vinyl planks straight on to the tiles. It looks like you have a lovely houseRelated Discussions

Comments (38)Samantha B I just completed my kitchen Reno in Perth. My pantry was also bricked up like yours. Literally doubled the space by getting rid of it but we found out after that the pantry was structural & we had to put an extra support beam in the roof instead ($800) so be careful of that! We completely moved the plumbing, gas & electrics & it only cost a few hundred! So don't be afraid to do that as long as u know decent priced tradies! We ended up doing nearly everything ourselves & went with a masters flat packed kitchen & sourced our own stone benchtops dirt cheap ($2500 installed for a 2m bench & a 1.5m island each with one waterfall edge.). Comments (16)The grey on the western wall looks dark and purplish on my monitor. It may come over as too imposing and monolithic on the southern face. If you're sticking with the grey palette then a warmer tone would suit the sandstone better. Does Dulux have a colour palette recommendation that includes your Berkshire White plus a grey? Check online or in store pamphlets. But, for such a big, expensive, and impactful paint job I would actually be tempted to get a colour consultant. Comments (18)You can buy the caboodle bamboo kitchen bench top from Bunnings wood section and cut it to any size you want. If you just wax it, it is quite rustic and would save you the cost of getting a benchtop made. It comes in two thicknesses and is 600mm deep. The piece that I bought was 2.4m long. Have a look at it, at least. Then if you have some other rustic pieces or even units with steel tops, it can tie the rest together. My vote is to keep the stove and get some rustic or industrial cup'd handles. A real farmhouse kitchen is a mix and match thing. My vote is for trying to keep the bench you bought as an island if you can. I would go for open shelves along the wall where the stove and fridge are and put the microwave on one of them. Maybe you could find some different tiles for behind the sink. I would rip those shiny ones off the wall and choose something that will fit in with your mix'n match rustic style, or just something quirky - even old wood. It all depends on how much money you want to spend and kitchens add up very quickly. If it functional and pleases your eye, then you are a winner. If the carcasses are still usable, it is much cheaper to just get new doors for them, when you can afford it. I wouldn't bother with window covering in the kitchen. Comments (10)The existing kitchen is just so cookie cutter -- there is almost no character . The irony is that they presumably added the light mint green tiles to try and lift things , but as has been said , its that plain and insipid it detracts IMO . As well as that , just visually I think the tiles go too high up the wall , but thats a minor moan . Those who know me will probably guess , but I think it heeds a stronger colour -- a strong sherwood green , or my favourite , a mid to bright red , even a maroon , would work best with the existing colours and some natural wooden lightshades and stools etc . Gloss black tiles may work , but my worry is that it may make the cabinets look even more like the cheapest Bunnings flat pack ones you can buy , whereas colour will add to the overall look . One little thing though 0-- the overhead cupboards I'd look at getting plaster or silicone or possibly even some small square mouldings added -- right now they look like they'd fall off the roof if you add too much weight !...See More

Hi HU, We removed the old kitchen, it's blue tiles, suede effect blue painted wall, blue knobs, blue blind and a large hanging glass light.11
The tiled floor was a nightmare to remove as the tiles were set into concrete, my poor husband had to use a Jack Hammer, anyway
We used Bunnings Kaboodle cabinets, we purchased Cook top. Oven and sink from Grays online at a fraction of the cost, and used plywood from Mr Plywood to do bench tops to save on cost.
The photo I posted above was to show how the new kitchen was now open on both sides. A couple more during the process the pantries are now where the range hood was.

I love the arches in your house, makes me wonder what your main rooms are like.
You seem to have a good plan and ideas, would you be able to keep te double oven and find some where else for the MW, it would save money. I agree with painting the Range hood tiles to match cabinets.
Have you considered a gray colour for your cabinets, with laminated timber bench tops from Bunnings building section, not the kitchen as these are much cheaper, you would need 3 pieces. Not sure what the difference would be between laminate and these timber bench's which are much nicer. Some photos to show what I'am suggesting. Hace you considered white washing some of the bricks in the kitchen in particular the fridge wall bricks.
