Corner TV dilemma

Unfortunately due to the design of our living area the only place we can put the TV is in a corner. We have an old corner unit that desperately needs replacing. I would ideally like to find a Messmate unit as I have a dining table in that. Tossed up whether we can use a wall bracket but what to put underneath it?

You could put the TV on an arm with a VESA mount at the best viewing height - then add a slim shelf just below for putting Apple TV remotes etc

I have a corner wall mounted mounted TV I bought the mount from Bunnings, it doesn't have to be high on the wall and you could still use your current cabinet for equipment. If you want to display things on top of the cabinet just mount the TV a bit higher

I agree with the above. I think the TV will look a little odd with two tall cabinets on either side and nothing underneath. Also, where would you store/hide the DVD player, stereo, cords and whatever other bits and bobs you have for the TV? What were you hoping to achieve with the cabinets? Did you want space to display collectibles? Did you want to introduce the azure colour into the room?

Have a look in Houzz's Living Room Photos and in the search bar type 'TV over brick fireplace in photos.' Might give you some ideas. also, if you were to build a hearth surround and mantle, the TV would look good mounted on the brick (could angle it down a bit so you don't have to crane your neck to watch). Still, need a place to store the bits and pieces that go with the TV.

This is very similar to our floor plan (yet to start building) ... same as you we have our backyard to the north, kitchen to the east, dining table in the middle, lounge to the west. And we had the exact same dilemma where to put the couches. We decided on position 1 but in an L shape with a couch along the west wall and north wall. And we will have two arm chairs or ottomans in your couch position 2. We decided on this because it feels more open and didn’t want the TV to be a main focal point. Don’t necessarily want to see the back of the couch either.

@ann It would be very similar to the one in the picture, with an overall height of 150cm. Cladding is definitely something I considered, maybe white stacked stones or similar. Floors will be dark wood look tiles. @sirius In principle that would work well, but I think the furniture might not fit in that configuration and if they would fit, it would be at a push and block off the walkway to the alfresco.

The wall to the right looks like theres nothing along there -- would it be too much of an angle to have it flat ( or flattish -- have the left end of the TV maybe 150mm out from that wall ?

As spmm and siriuskey say , a swivelling type mount would be reasonably professional too . A builder or handyman may even be able to cut a couple of wooden blocks to suit the angles and where the mounting points are on the back of your TV , but then you need to know where the studs are .

Failing all that -- that TV looks around 50 inch -- have a measure , a 42inch or even 40 may be a better fit if it absolutely has to go flat on that wall ( when measuring , remember TVs are measured diagonally , but don't forget frames around the side too ) .

Whatever you do , that current setup looks too much like it could get knocked off accidentally -- I personally wouldn't have a TV on a cabinet near a door or similar -- wall mounting is definitely my preference .

Install a low TV unit. Either the television on the wall with swivel. Or the TV at an angle on the low entertainment unit.
