Help with design concept for a canal-side house
Comments (10)II know this is an old thread and you are probably well underway, just realised the date :-( But I would try to make a private courtyard off the ensuite and move the bath to the window overlooking this area. Would probably have to turn the WIR sideways and redo bedroom entry, I would switch dining room with kitchen & laundry too with study at rear of media room looking out to courtyard with possible access from kitchen & laundry. Maybe move powder room to exterior wall too next to study & Bed 3 bathroom turn sideways with robes behind bathroom, may improve bedroom size. Then Media to room add corner sliding doors as in this great debate on Houzz https://www.houzz.com.au/discussions/media-rooms-in-or-out-dsvw-vd~3149173 You can then open to living space if wanted - gains air/light/breeze & functionality. Kitchen gains wall for high cabinets and you could include a servery/hatch to media room. :-)...See MoreWhich bathroom layout should I go with?
Comments (21)yes but I think it depends what market you are likely to be seeking in. if it's not family home market but more up market retirees then a glam spacious bathroom will win more plaudits from buyers than a cramped make-do space. I just strongly feel you should design your bathroom so it is a pleasure to use every day not just the one day a year you may want a bath (plus much as I like the style of bathroom Siriuskey has posted they really don't beg out for bathing in). But a vanity space where you can even have your own toothpaste if you like stripey and he likes plain and all stored neatly away so they never have to appear on display together and with a shower you can lift your arms up in is priceless if you ask me....See MoreShould I let my husband project manage our bathroom renovations?
Comments (16)We have been renovating bathrooms for more than 20 years, of late and with (reality tv ) a bathroom renovation appear to take a mere few days. . It has now become unreal expectation, for a quick cheap bathroom renovations ( "I renovated my bathroom for $ 5,000" ) Bathroom renovation businesses and builders require a 25% to 30% for overheads plus profit. And most work, if not all is sub contracted out, demolition, plumbing, electrical, rendering ,villaboard, waterproofing, tiling. (one very large renovation business dictates rates to trades, e.g render a bathroom for $ 600 including materials.) Rather than to try and compete with the cheap, poor quality businesses,we have changing our business to advising/supporting/teaching home owners ( as your husband ) to renovate their own bathrooms, with our home inspections. The key to a Bathroom Renovation...is Meticulous Planning......See More1 sink in main bathroom on the side?
Comments (9)Mirror to go full width so the full vanity is utilised. No use having a mirror just over the basin, everyone using the bathroom will be standing behind each other doing their teeth, hair, makeup. A mirror the full width would allow three people to stand at the vanity at once....See More- 5 years ago
