Any ideas on how to update kitchen?
Comments (8)you could put a wash (e.g a lime wash)over the top of the doors to lighten them up a little and get rid of the orange tone to a certain degree, that way you dont have to spend too much time stripping them back and prepping them, you will still see the grain as well, unfortunatley the orange will always be visible through a wash, unless you stain them darker. You could go totally left field and stain them more of a walnut brown, that can look quite modern and dress it up with handles, that way you will still see the grain. The inside of the doors wont be flat, been a raise panel, they will more then likely have a 3mm lip and still have the arch on the inside....See MoreHow should I update my kitchen?
Comments (12)I always think of how I'm going to use a room first. Most women seem to complain one of the worst chores is getting the groceries from the car to the kitchen and putting them away. For this reason, to me access to the kitchen should keep this in mind so when your entry is right near the hall doorway, that is the door I would keep. A small kitchen can be very difficult when entertaining and people want to help. I solved this in my old home by putting a hatch between the kitchen and dining room allowing extra cupboard space to fill the doorway and giving extra bench space too. Wall cupboards can also be put above the hatch. This means when dinner is being served or cleared, you have helpers clearing to the bench and others in the kitchen moving to or from the hatch. You don't have a large enough kitchen for many helpers, but I found this system worked a treat, with 2 people working each side things moved quickly and efficiently with helpers not falling over each other....See MoreLooking for some quick & easy ways to update your kitchen?

While you may want to renovate your entire kitchen, there are a few things that you can change that will instantly transform it. If you’ve got a spare weekend, we can show you how to get the most out of a few simple changes! Paint or Replace Cabinetry If you want huge results fast, then our first tip is to update the kitchen cabinetry. We find that one of the easiest things to do is to paint the cabinetry! There are some amazing new paints on the market now that are specifically designed for the kitchen area. And if applied following the manufacturer’s instructions, your friends and family will never guess that it’s paint – they are seriously that good! But if you have more room in the budget and your kitchen structure is in good condition, you can have a cabinetmaker replace the doors and surrounds. Once they have measured and you have chosen a finish, the cabinetmaker will build the new doors offsite and return to install them. So there is basically only a few hours of downtime. Winner!! Create a New Benchtop So if you are going to the trouble of replacing or painting your cabinetry, it makes sense to replace the kitchen benchtop as well. Again, updating this will have a huge impact on the overall look, and can be done at the same time as the cabinetry update. With similar options to the cabinetry, you can now buy specific kitchen benchtop paint. Giving you the option to completely update your kitchen in a weekend. Or again, if you have a more generous budget, replacing it with a new one will give you an entirely new kitchen. Design Tip – Think about things like maintenance, longevity and style when choosing your benchtop. If you’re a busy family, something like a high-maintenance marble may not be optimal. Maybe try engineered stone instead. Or if you love a more organic or rustic vibe, go for a solid timber benchtop to add interest. Just make sure your style doesn’t override day-to-day practicality....See MoreWant to update my kitchen....any ideas
Comments (10)The existing kitchen is just so cookie cutter -- there is almost no character . The irony is that they presumably added the light mint green tiles to try and lift things , but as has been said , its that plain and insipid it detracts IMO . As well as that , just visually I think the tiles go too high up the wall , but thats a minor moan . Those who know me will probably guess , but I think it heeds a stronger colour -- a strong sherwood green , or my favourite , a mid to bright red , even a maroon , would work best with the existing colours and some natural wooden lightshades and stools etc . Gloss black tiles may work , but my worry is that it may make the cabinets look even more like the cheapest Bunnings flat pack ones you can buy , whereas colour will add to the overall look . One little thing though 0-- the overhead cupboards I'd look at getting plaster or silicone or possibly even some small square mouldings added -- right now they look like they'd fall off the roof if you add too much weight !...See MoreDeb Xuereb
