While it is very nice , my worry is how it now sits with the rest of the house -- while it was definitely 70 years out of date haha , the before had a definite style and character , and I am assuming the rest of the house was/is similar -- so you now have a 2020 bathroom in a 1940 house ?

Yeah that’s true - it might be worth looking into smaller renos for the rest of the house?

Looking again , I actually think it would have been way better to work in with the better aspects of the old bathroom -- I love the olive colour upper walls , the frieze tiles , the darker timber , even the basic white tiles . Although I generally think the dimpled windows and the glass bricks are a bit tacky , even they work here -- better than the white on white on white , with a fairly generic oak or whatever the timber is supposed to be .

So just me -- I would have updated the shower , probably the bath , the new toilet itself , and having it in a converted storage area are all good -- but basically it has almost no character now .

@User that’s quite an opinion you have on this project! While I can appreciate all opinions I think it’s important to realise this is someone’s time and work and there was a very firm client brief in place for this project. All aspects of what the client wanted were taken into consideration as well as how they wanted it to look, feel and function. The rest of the home did not infact look like the bathroom as some renovations have taken place and will continue to, and the client did not like how the bathroom looked as it felt small dark and cramped. What they have been given is a spacious, modern and function bathroom for their family.

Interestingly , all the before shots are taken with the lights off , so it does look darker . All the after shots are taken with the lights on , so it does appear to be lighter and 'less dingy' . Its hard to tell , but it is implied that the position has not changed ( apart from the toilet being moved to that light filled cupboard ) , and it appears there are a couple of new smaller windows , while the glass bricks have been removed or covered over . I accept that glass bricks do not pass a huge amount of light , but it all helps .

So I agree -- having an all white bathroom with the lights on it does appear more 'light' , and less 'character' or 'taste' or 'interest' IMO .

As long as the clients love it ( or at least pay the bill ) .

@User So many assumptions! I'm unsure of why you've assumed the first photos were taken with lights on - they were not. Both photos were taken in natural daylight, both late morning. The simple fact of having new lighter finishes and fixtures and no shower wall is what has given the room this new appreance. Simple prinicples of design! The window was covered over as it was not providing much light and the addition of a shaving cabinet with storage was much better use of this wall. Once again wrong in regards to the toilet, the toilet/powder room space in the under stairs storage was an additonal room that was created. It did not replace the toilet in the main bathroom but gave them an additional one. The client was both happy and paid the bill for your information, thanks for your interest.

I have to commend you for that beautiful bathtub! I love it! It fits so beautifully. It still has the elegant curves with all the appeal of these stunning stand-alone big tubs, but the way its actually set against the wall! Oh, I Love It!

This is actually functional, easy to clean around and there is no hard to reach impossible pocket hiding behind it waiting to become a mould farm!!

I am in awe of the whole transformation, but my latest pet peeve is the mould catching bathtub trend and you solved it delightfully!!!!

I had to look twice at the original bathroom. Quite the collection of colours & styles, but in its day somebody liked it. The renovation is a great success & l hope the owners enjoy their lovely, stylish new bathroom. Loren.
