Went from 2 to single and about to go back to 2 levels. First thing you acquire nice legs. You can leave bedrooms undone and visitors not see the mess if you lead a busy life. In reverse once you have done the bedrooms you can keep young messy children out that level. Once the older ones go to school they can go up to their room to work quietly whilst the younger ones are not restricted. In particular teenagers. If the laundry can be situated one same floor as bathrooms and bedroom all is simple. Otherwise try to have a chute or at any rate train ALL the members of the family to use a washing basket so you don't spend half a day visiting all the quarters of the house to organise the washing.This is the only adjustment I had to make. .

Fill it with pieces you love and learn to zone out what you can't change. Funnily enough we are having the opposite problem - about to move into a home we have created but still with the 'rental' stuff...it will be an adjustment. furniture seems huge for the space. If you can spread it out and put a large print ofr painting on the wall to balance the couches, it would help. If you need to use the space an office area is there a way to change the spot ans its all a bit crowded. The office chair is too big there and doesnt blend with other decor. A large plant and some softening detail in cushions ie stay away from the stark bold reds and go for patterns in softer colors. Red does not warm up a room as most people think. :)
