Location: Currumbin Valley (The Ecovillage)
This house is about as sustainable as a modern house can get. Commissioned by the Developers of The Ecovillage for their own residence as a showcase of World’s Best Practice in Sustainable Design. It was a collaborative effort and was dubbed “The Living Laboratory” and became part of the Qld. Sustainable House Program. It was operated in Partnership with the Qld. Govt. Dept. of Public Works and Housing. It’s an unusual style of architecture and uses a wide variety of building materials including clay render, local rock work, polished concrete floors, timber floors, 80% recycled materials, Ritek Roofing to name a few. Self sufficient in resources including power and water the house is made from non toxic materials, is access friendly and affordable ticking all the boxes for a highly sustainable site.
