10 More Smashing Black Bathrooms
Would you go dark with your bathroom design? After you see these, you may be surprised by your answer
It’s been a few years since our first roundup of smashing black bathrooms had Houzzers debating why they loved them or hated them. (There were not many who landed in between, a sign of a strong design move.) Houzz pros have added scads of new black bathrooms since then — let’s check them out and pick up where we left off. Could you live with a black bathroom? Take a look and let us know what you think.
1. Go big or go home. I mean, wow, this is a lot of veining pattern. But it is the ultimate glam look, extending down the walls, around the tub and across the floor. The black shower head, towel bar and vanity don’t distract, letting the black granite be the star.
2. The royal. This boxy throne has a crown above it. At first glance you think this is a museum display, then you realize you’re actually looking at a toilet. That’s a good trick!

3. The treehouse. Located high in the trees outside of Tokyo, this dark bathroom has an organic feel that puts the focus on the surrounding leafy canopy. (By the way, I’m stretching “black” to include graphite and charcoal in this collection of bathrooms.)
4. Like a waterfall. The lovely black tiles in a running bond pattern spill from the shower stall onto the rest of the floor for a dramatic waterfall-like effect.
5. I got your number on the wall. I’m not usually a fan of public bathroom graffiti, because it’s vandalism of someone else’s property and the messages are usually gross, grammatically incorrect or both. But in a private home with chalkboard-paint-covered walls, it could be fun. Just make sure everyone washes their hands before picking up the chalk — and after, just in case.
6. Darkness embraced. This use of so much black is powerful. It’s sexy, it’s dramatic — and one wonders if and how the little cactus can thrive in here.
7. Alligator alley. Don’t worry, no large reptiles had to die to create the wallcovering in this Orlando, Florida, bathroom. The designer specified a faux alligator-embossed painting technique. Not only does the texture add depth, but it also pleases fans of the Florida gators.

8. The sexy en suite. When your bedroom is wide open to a view of your bathroom, it has to be a good view. This large dark bathroom mixes Moroccan screens, bronze finishes and a live-edge, black-stained oak vanity.

9. Chic and prickly. This scene is a study in contrast: the rectangular window with the view out to the garden versus the round porcupine-quill-framed mirror. They vie for attention against the deep black backdrop, creating an alluring tension.

10. What lies beneath. This room is very traditional-goes-glam with its glossy paint and millwork, but then you look down. The lively and bright flooring is an unexpected playful touch.
