See How a Luxe Finish Elevated an Entertainer’s Kitchen
When a pair of passionate cooks sought a striking and easy-care finish for their kitchen, the designer knew just the one

When the owners of this early 1900s villa in Kensington Park, SA, approached kitchen designer Stefan Vignogna of Stefan Vignogna Bespoke Joinery Design to renovate their dated kitchen, they sought a durable yet sophisticated design that complemented their home’s original features and gave them space to cook and entertain.
Vignogna swapped the existing cramped and impractical layout for one that was open and centred around a generous island bench. Aesthetically, the kitchen was to be minimalist in design, which meant all eyes would be on the finishes. Luxurious and hardwearing finishes were essential; Vignogna specified a low-maintenance, marble-look finish – Dekton Portum by Cosentino – across multiple surfaces to create a striking and elegant look with minimal upkeep requirements.
Read on to learn how the finishes were the making of this sophisticated cooking space, and how and where you can use it in your own home.

Low-maintenance
“The owners wanted their kitchen to have a simple and minimalist look and feel,” says Vignogna. “They’re keen cooks and entertainers so the layout needed to function efficiently too.”
When it came to adding a sense of timeless luxury to the pared-back kitchen design, stone was an obvious choice. But natural stone is not without its drawbacks; it’s extremely porous, prone to staining and requires ongoing upkeep to look good and perform well.
Instead, Vignogna selected Dekton Portum by Cosentino, a high-performance ultra-compact surface that recreates the stunning appearance of Brazilian marble, with none of the time-consuming maintenance.

Dekton by Cosentino is stain-proof and scratch-, heat- and UV-resistant, which means you never have to worry if a guest spills a glass of red wine on it or if you accidentally put down a hot pot. Plus, it can be installed in bright and sunny spots without fading and in wet spots without the risk of water stains.
And you don’t need to seal it – ever!

Versatile applications
Carrying a single statement finish through to different parts of your kitchen, as Vignogna has done here, allows you to create a seamless aesthetic – and one that’s right on-trend.
Dekton is the ideal material to create this look; it comes in a wide range of thicknesses (4 millimetres, 8 millimetres, 12 millimetres, 20 millimetres and 30 millimetres), which means you can use it on everything from benchtops, floors and walls to cabinetry fronts and custom furniture, such as a dining table.
And Dekton isn’t just for kitchens; you can use it on the countertops, floors and walls of a bathroom, it can be crafted into a unique sink, or to give your built-in joinery a unique look.

With slab sizes up to 320x144 centimetres in size, you can create expansive, joint-free surfaces across your island, rear benchtops and walls.
Here, Vignogna applied Dekton Portum in a 12-millimetre thickness to the benchtops and in an 8-millimetre thickness to the splashback, rangehood and to clad the island, including the drawer fronts.
To complete the luxe look, he paired marble-look Dekton with a rich, timber laminate (Polytec Woodmatt Perugian Walnut), warm timber flooring, a brushed-gold gooseneck tap and leather-wrapped handles.

Use it inside and out
Blur the lines between inside and out by running Dekton from your interior to the terrace, deck or balcony.
Dekton is the ultimate all-weather material; it will not crack under temperature extremes and is UV-resistant so the colour won’t fade, even with constant sun exposure.
Use it for outdoor benchtops, around the barbecue, to create a custom outdoor dining table, or to clad outdoor joinery.
You can even use non-slip Dekton Grip+ around the pool or as pavers to your deck or terrace (Dekton Grip+ will incur lead times).
