9. Country Chic
Shiplap wainscoting paired with a marble-topped vanity and decorative mirror set a tone of country house meets city chic for this Minnesota powder room. The waterfront home, designed by architect Andrea Swan of Swan Architecture, features dark floors, light walls and accents of gray – including in the powder room. Here Swan has used a lightly streaked white-and-pale-gray wall covering, uplit by a pair of sconces.

8. Ocean Inspired
This powder room in a beach house in Orange County, California, subtly nods to its oceanfront location. “We decided to minimize the coastal look and go more classic,” says interior designer Shan Luvisa of Obvious Flair Interior Design. She covered the floor with Calacatta Gold marble in a mosaic fish-tail pattern, dressed a wall with Thassos marble and pearlized shell tile and mounted sea urchin-inspired gold accents above the toilet.

7. Fern Green
Before architect Jeff Krieger and his team renovated this home in Philadelphia, this space was a full bathroom and hadn’t been updated since the 1950s. Krieger converted the full bath to a powder room and walk-in closet, adding a new full bath elsewhere in the house.
Now the powder room features a fern green wall covering, white countertop and vanity and elegant lighting. The green-and-white marble mosaic floor, sourced by the owner, ties the room together.

6. Chevron Walls
Striking a balance between industrial and organic style, this powder room in Cincinnati built by Michaelson Homes LLC features bare-bulb sconces and a custom live-edge wooden vanity top. But it’s the bold black chevron tile work that really steals the show.

5. Gray and Gold
Easy maintenance was a priority for this refined powder room designed by Patricia Calasich of KasaMia Interiors. “Our clients have little children, so the bottom of the walls was painted in a semi-gloss finish so it would be easier to clean and more forgiving to little handprints,” the designer says.
To help make the tight space feel more open, Calasich stuck to a soothing palette of fog-gray and white and chose a quartz-topped vanity with no cabinet, opening up views to the mosaic tile floor. Brass accents warm up the design.

Black and white meet gold in this contemporary powder room in a Los Angeles home by Extreme Developers. Patterned cement tiles give the floor a graphic statement, while charcoal gray hexagonal wall tiles create a dark backdrop for a gold-trimmed mirror and hammered-metal pendant light.

3. Beach Club Chic
For homeowners who wanted to convey the feeling of an island resort in their powder room in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, interior designer Laura Valdes of Insignia Design Group used a wallpaper with an oversize floral motif called ‘Baltimore in blue’ from Thibaut’s Monterey collection. She kept the rest of the powder room simple and white, resulting in an effect that is soothing rather than overwhelming.

2. Fantastic Beasts
Striped beasts caper across the walls of this Los Angeles powder room by Paige Pierce Design. “In a small space like a powder room, your wallpaper is going to really be the shining star,” says Pierce, who selected this ‘Tibet’ by Clarence House paper in pale blue. A marble-topped vanity and brass accents, including a hand-forged metal mirror and a pair of wall sconces, complete the look.
Sconces: Go Lightly in gild, Visual Comfort; faucet: Chesterfield, Newport Brass

1. Gray Ombre
The subtle fade from light to dark gray on the wall is easy to mistake as a lighting trick in this powder room by Reisa Pollard of Beyond Beige Interior Design. “The ombre wallpaper gives a fading effect to hide the overall size of the room and keeps the focus on the height,” Pollard says.
The tall, rectangular mirror has a similar height-enhancing effect. The charcoal-colored stone sink practically disappears from view, were it not for the highlights glinting off the brushed gold faucet.
Faucet: Purist in brushed gold, Kohler
