In this inner-city home, we sought to defy the boundaries of the urban context, using landscape at every opportunity to cultivate a sense of privacy, seclusion, and comfort for our clients.
At every point of the site, greenery interacts with the house - vines climbing columns, groundcovers cascading over walls, the dense foliage of screening trees brushing through battens - to soften architectural lines and blur the connection of indoor and outdoor spaces. The immersion is enhanced with intimate tactile interactions, the textural contrast of smooth stepping stone pathways, soft foliage, and pebbles. Integrated seating invites rest within the greenery, under the filtered sunlight.
Stepping through the gardens we experience a shift from a sunny coastal heath to a deep layered subtropical alcove. This shift in palette is responsive to the microclimatic conditions of the site, and further complements the architectural transition from public to private spaces.

Ocean Road LandscapingThis landscape garden won the 2014 Landscape Victoria Awards for “Plants In the Landscape”. With its natural Stingy Bark twisted trees, the design highlights and enhances these beautiful sculptural trees. The plants are the landscape, attracting wildlife and frogs, with evidence of children climbing and playing in this space. The use of north facing sun has been harnessed in the court yard close to the house, offering a completely different micro-climate, and protection from the southerly breeze.
This landscape garden was in the Open Gardens Australia for a special twilight event in January 2014 & 2015. With features such as decking, stonewalls and plantings that are drought hardy and indigenous. Monies raised from these garden openings were donated to the Anglesea CFA.

“WOW! This is an exceptional garden. The plants in this garden are the landscape. The existing trees have been made features in the overall landscape, and new plantings have been done to compliment and further highlight the existing trees.
The use of native plants in a structured manner has worked really well, and the retention of an undisturbed strip of indigenous vegetation has been sensitively incorporated into the landscape.
It was also great to see that this was a space that was explored and utilised by the whole family.”

Harry Kyriakou Landscape DesignThis medium sized contemporary garden in Armadale complements the 20 year old two storey townhouse. The original and tired concrete paving was replaced with new travertine pavers. Established plants like the two Silver Birches, Gardenias and espaliered Camellia were retained. A combination of exotic and Australian native plants form the new plant palette and bring a new vitality to this compact garden.
Hope & Heart Garden DesignThis is a narrow space at the back of the house designed to be an entertaining space. A near vertical rock outcrop rises from the back of the house leaving only a small space, which is moderately shaded. Large rocks have been used to form some planting spaces. The majority of the area is gravelled with Dromana Topping which provides a very peaceful ambience and a practical surface.
