The owners of this site purchased this site to renovate it and immediately sell it. In its original condition, this terrace had not been remodelled since the 1960’s, and was extremely dilapidated. Most of the original features of the terrace, such as the internal staircase, and the balcony area, could not be saved. The terrace was gutted in its entirety, starting from the ground floor, which was extended by several metres, in order to create an open plan dining and kitchen area that looked out onto the garden. The entire first floor was remodelled and extended to the rear, in order to create an additional two bedrooms and two bathrooms (one with en-suite) within the terrace. The design of the terrace went through two pre-DA meetings with Council, which proved helpful in finding a design solution that achieved both the owners’ and the Council’s goals. The extension is set back from the front view of the site, in order to be able to clearly differentiate between the original terrace and the new works. A town planner was engaged in order to maximise chances of Council approval. When choosing finishes, the owners were after on trend colours that would resonate with the typical home buyer in the area, whilst keeping to a budget that would allow them to still wean a profit from the works. The kitchen was designed in a shaker style that seems common throughout houses at this current time. The floor finish is a bespoke timber herringbone on the ground floor, and wool carpet on the first floor.
