APLD 2021 Silver Award Winning Landscape Design. An expansive back yard landscape with several mature oak trees and a stunning Golden Locust tree has been transformed into a welcoming outdoor retreat. The renovations include a wraparound deck, an expansive travertine natural stone patio, stairways and pathways along with concrete retaining walls and column accents with dramatic planters. The pathways meander throughout the landscape... some with travertine stepping stones and gravel and those below the majestic oaks left natural with fallen leaves. Raised vegetable beds and fruit trees occupy some of the sunniest areas of the landscape. A variety of low-water and low-maintenance plants for both sunny and shady areas include several succulents, grasses, CA natives and other site-appropriate Mediterranean plants complimented by a variety of boulders. Dramatic white pots provide architectural accents, filled with succulents and citrus trees. Design, Photos, Drawings © Eileen Kelly, Dig Your Garden Landscape Design

New construction home designed and built by Hartman Baldwin. The landscape is extensive and was a collaborative effort between HB and NC Design. We created a beautiful drought tolerant landscape that blended in well with the surrounding hillsides. To ensure a healthy, vibrant environment for years to come, many colorful succulents, grasses, yuccas and flowering low-water perennials were used throughout the property, along with non-fruiting Olive trees and Palo Verde.

Rustic railroad tie stairway is luxuriously wide and support comfortably spaced blue shale pads between. These stairs provide a laid back yet classical access to the pool terrace from the tennis court, Olive orchard, guest parking area and future ADU. Plantings add much to the Mediterranean feel.

The front and back areas surrounding this Eichler home were updated with the mid-century modern design aesthetic in mind. The back landscape includes concrete retaining walls and pathways and the "Gracie Modern Arbors" (by TerraTrellis) provide eye-catching focal points, three installed to bring interest and needed height over a long pathway ramp with grape vines. Another frames a stairway to the hillside with a flowering Passion vine. The sloped hillsides were revamped to include low-water and low-maintenance plants that include CA natives, flowing grasses, other Mediterranean plants and several succulents. The Front landscape takes on a minimalist design with architectural Barrel Cactus, Artichoke Agaves, stately Thatching Reeds, a Blue Palm (Brahea 'Clara') a Mediterranean Fan Palm and other easy-care plants. A medley of colorful succulents, and low-water grasses and flowering plants surround the fountain providing colors and textures throughout the seasons . The removal of the dense and overgrown shrubs and trees provided more outdoor space for dining and entertaining, less maintenance. And now with site-appropriate plants and no lawn, a lower water bill for the homewoners. The low-water plants include a variety of succulents such as Sedum rupestre 'Angelina' with chartreuse green foliage, Echeveria 'Lipstick', and other succulents along with Lomandra 'seascape' (a grass-like plant), Echinacea, and Salvia. This combination offers year-round appeal and interest throughout the seasons. 1/8" Mexican pebbles were used through the pathways with blue stone. The more formal ipe veranda, benches and trellis, stained concrete and steel planters transition to a more rustic railroad tie and crushed rock side entrance. Grasses provide a tough, bright contrast to the dark wood along with Chondropetalum and Jade accent plants. Citrus pots frame the entries to the mid terrace above.
