This is a remodel of an existing stair leading to the 2nd floor master suite. The structural stringers are 2x12's which are trimmed in 1x wood and painted. We wrapped the old 2x12 treads with 3/4" thick oak on the top and edges. The steel railing was sanded well and then sprayed with a clear lacquer finish, which allows the steel to oxidize and patina underneath. photo by Paul DeGroot
