Raw steel, ipe wood, basalt flooring are strong and durable materials that create a clean, contemporary design aesthetic the homeowner calls “urban prairie.” They also were chosen to withstand the city’s severe weather patterns. A “garden” featuring native prairie plants surrounds most of the space, providing softness and motion. Life out here is lived by the fire, not only for warmth, but for community and sustenance. The basalt and steel fireplace in the living room provides space for conversation and heat. The fully equipped outdoor kitchen featuring a Hybrid Fire Grill, cooktop, cabinetry, refrigeration and a sink is always a gathering space because of the delicious dishes created in it.
