Originally a mid-century shack built on the Midway Point peninsula in Southern Tasmania, an area where many Hobart locals escaped the city for a weekend getaway at their family shack. The peninsula is a unique landscape, a long thin Triassic sandstone land mass surrounded largely by water, historically and currently a place of refuge while traversing the waterway. The fully renovated interior respects and references the era that the dwelling was built and engages in the notions of ‘natural refuge’ and the interaction of ‘nature & void’ derived from the characteristics of the unique surrounding landscape. The extensive use of Tasmanian oak hardwood in the floors, ceiling, and joinery contrasts and interacts with the pure white forms. The natural materiality of the timbers softens and brings a calming warmth to the home while the white walls give an expansive horizon effect enhancing the openings that frame the landscape and native gardens beyond.

Originally built in 1906, the Hobart GPO building holds significant heritage and cultural value and is considered as one of the most treasured properties on the Australia Post portfolio. Renascent Australia entered into internal and external works, refurbishing the GPO building over an 11 month period that is constructed of Linden Stone sourced from the original quarry in Port Arthur, Tasmania, and features a slate roof with tiles and lead capping’s that was sourced from Wales.
The $7.5M project includes significant sandstone façade repair works, clock tower refurbishment, timber window renewal and re-decoration.
Renascent employed the finest craftsmen available for the Slate and Lead Roof Work, as well as, the sandstone restoration and masonry repair. The duration of the project was undertaken whilst the Hobart Australia Post Office and Retail Store remained fully operational.

Tasmania’s Clarence High School Oval Sports Pavilion by Dock4 Architects hums like a well-oiled machine. When I visit midweek for a twilight Little Athletics meet, the streets and car parks are full. Crowds of children and parents fill the space with an intense, positive atmosphere. The pavilion, set in a sea of colourful family tents, is quietly efficient without drawing attention to itself. It is an elegant response to the architectural brief and the obvious enjoyment of the people using it is equally due to the effective organization of community groups and a design that focuses and supports their efforts.
