4. Tri-bearing roof trussAnother variation of the common pitched truss is the tri-bearing roof truss, which incorporates an additional upright post on either side of the king post. With three bearing points, these trusses are usually larger and able to hold a greater load.In a wider room, this tri-bearing roof truss is an efficient way to support the roof. Spanning the space above the kitchen, each element is quite chunky, but painted, it still has a feeling of lightness.
1. A breakfast bar overhangKitchen islands with bar stools are must-have commodities in modern kitchens. These breakfast bars are the perfect way to separate the living area from the kitchen, while maintaining an open living environment. Parents can cook dinner and keep one eye on their kids as they do homework, and friends can sit and have a glass of wine while their hosts cook. If you are planning to include a breakfast bar in your kitchen, ensure you include an overhang on your island. This will provide legroom for those sitting on the bar stools. Anywhere between 12-19 inches overhang on the back side of the island will ensure the sitters are comfortable.12 breakfast bars that give cafés a run for their money
Head out earlyThe morning can slip by before you know it if you’re pottering around sorting out what to take, but heading out early (and by early, I mean before 8am) will mean you beat the traffic, find a great parking spot and avoid the hottest part of the day. Best of all, you’ll have time to make it home for an afternoon nanna nap (if you’re lucky) and the kids will be tired enough to crash out as well (if you’re twice as lucky).
4. White colour paletteWhite is such as versatile colour and suits most kitchen styles, including tropical. This Melbourne kitchen embraces white, featuring a white ceiling, cabinetry, benchtop and splashback. Glass pendants are ideal as they are transparent and don’t block the sight-line to the ceiling.Be inspired by more wonderfully white kitchens

That’s an extra 6-8” of light into your kitchen, and who doesn’t want that?. My biggest reno blunder was to choose a dark bench colour in a kitchen flooded with light.Seemed like a good idea, however every spot, swipe, smear showed as you looked along the bench.Especially as you entered the kitchen, you looked straight along the bench.I was always working to keep it pristine. Never again. My current bench is off white, with specks of colour that make it easy to care for.
