Put it all in orderBe more organised at home by delegating household jobs. It is easy to fall into the trap of being the only one who does all of the household chores. While it is admirable, and sometimes feels simpler to do everything yourself, it is neither sensible nor practical. Get the kids involved – from a young age, they are able to help you out. Have a system and discuss the system at a family meeting. Make it positive and fun. Children actually thrive when given responsibility. Whatever motivates your kids, use that. If they need competition, run one; if they need the incentive of a reward, offer one. The most important thing is everyone contributes. As for keeping personal spaces tidy, Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson advises young people with the straightforward words, ‘clean your room‘. He strongly agrees with the premise that your room is an externalisation of your mind.Tip: Help your kids to clean their rooms by providing the right furniture and storage. Take before and after pictures so you can celebrate the result and have a standard to adhere to.
