The EKLIPSE kitchen was custom built by Thornleys

Contemporary Kitchen

The EKLIPSE kitchen was custom built by Thornleys and designed by Vinny Smith of Northern Backdrop Interior Design as part of a new living space for private clients in Cheshire. The scheme was influenced by Scandinavian and Dutch design principles, with simple architectural lines, clean finishes and the incorporation of natural timber. The material choice throughout the whole of the design was a deliberate move away from high gloss cabinet & top look, to create something more sophisticated that would also respond subtly to the controlled internal directional and ambient lighting. J- pull doors and décor end panels were BA Knebworth Porcelain white, with Compac New York White Zement Quartz tops. Plinths by Egger in Light Concrete veneer. The visual focal point and signature piece of the kitchen design was the double 'C cut' inset into both the island and the end cabinet with oak veneer incorporated within both cut out sections. This C section kitchen island and end section were very much 'non-standard' in terms of size and style, but still also had to maximise available storage space, with no dummy panels or blank drawer units. Several standard cabinet manufacturers returned the design drawings as unworkable/untenable. Thornley's were able to break down the design into individual components, utilizing BA's square edged vinyl wrapped panels to create the unique C section one sees in the images. Each segment of the C-section units was an independent panel. Variations to the drawings allowed for fully functioning drawers above and below the inset section. The island and end unit were then inlaid with the natural oak veneer, which is a repeat signature throughout the design scheme, appearing on the coffee table, TV stand and feature kitchen wall. This was illuminated with concealed controllable LED strip to create a unique display space and to add to the overall evening low level lighting ambience when the living space also functions as the family's movie room.
