APLD 2021 Silver Award Winning Landscape Design. Galvanized troughs used for vegetables in the side yard. An expansive back yard landscape with several mature oak trees and a stunning Golden Locust tree has been transformed into a welcoming outdoor retreat. The renovations include a wraparound deck, an expansive travertine natural stone patio, stairways and pathways along with concrete retaining walls and column accents with dramatic planters. The pathways meander throughout the landscape... some with travertine stepping stones and gravel and those below the majestic oaks left natural with fallen leaves. Raised vegetable beds and fruit trees occupy some of the sunniest areas of the landscape. A variety of low-water and low-maintenance plants for both sunny and shady areas include several succulents, grasses, CA natives and other site-appropriate Mediterranean plants complimented by a variety of boulders. Dramatic white pots provide architectural accents, filled with succulents and citrus trees. Design, Photos, Drawings © Eileen Kelly, Dig Your Garden Landscape Design

A stunning backyard retreat featuring a boulder fire pit with Adirondack seating, a serene recirculating water feature, and winding pathways that seamlessly blend into the xeriscape landscape. Thoughtfully designed with boulder accents and drought-tolerant plantings, this outdoor space creates a tranquil and inviting atmosphere perfect for relaxation and entertaining.

This is a California xeriscape succulent garden. Clients wanted color and texture with drought-resistant plant materials. They enjoy garden sculptures, so we included a Buddha and a Roman bust planted with succulents. The previous owners of the property left behind some old San Francisco cobblestones, which we incorporated into the new design, using them as garden steps.
We built low, raised beds out of stone, also existing on the property, and used containers along steps and against existing concrete walls to soften the hard surfaces.

Beach side garden. Scott Lanlkford, Landscape Architect.
From the street, a round rock pathway leads to a small seating area next to the water with a small fire pit. Low maintenance, drought resistant and salt tolerant plantings were used in mass and clumps. This garden has become the focus of the neighborhood with many visitors stopping and enjoying what has become a neighborhood landmark

In 2022, I designed new planting beds for the front garden of a private client in Bristol, who wanted a space that echoed the Mediterranean landscapes they had come to love on their travels.
The site, a sun-soaked, south-facing slope in front of a tall stone retaining wall, offered a hot and dry microclimate, making Mediterranean planting both a practical and fitting choice. With a few young olive trees and an established Cordyline already in place, I shaped the new scheme around these key elements, preserving their character while building a cohesive and vibrant planting design around them.
To capture the essence of Mediterranean gravel gardens, I created a richly layered composition with swaying grasses like Nassella and Sesleria, architectural highlights from Euphorbia, Yucca, Agave, and Libertia, and seasonal colour from Lavandula, Perovskia, Thymus, and Eryngium. Two new groupings of Cordyline frame the space, adding height and structure. The planting palette features soft grasses and silver, grey, and blue-toned foliage, offset by bold, sharp-leaved forms, creating a dynamic contrast that brings the dry garden aesthetic to life.

We were asked by the owners of this Dover Heights coastal home to create a front garden design that would enhance the modern design and location of the house.
It is located right on the cliffs at Dover Heights Sydney and is subjected to the harsh coastal winds and sea salt in the area.
Our focus was on low maintenance, water wise planting and design that would withstand the elements and evolve over time.
