Architecture Republic

Disappointment all round. As people searching for an architect know, a good architect is hard to come by. We decided to go with Architecture Republic despite the multi month wait, and advising other potential architects that we had secured an architect.. Nearing the agreed commencement date for our project (we had to wait for Architecture Republic to become available), we received a call saying it would be another 6+ month wait to even conduct the first meeting. No real interest and care shown by the male architect that we had limited contact with. Perhaps this was because we were doing a large extension and not a multi-million $ new build.

My husband and I started working with Tristan and Jess back in 2017 to design a home on our farm on the south coast of NSW. We worked collaboratively with them over several months as our plans came to life. As is often the case when trying to secure a DA, we came across several challenges which required replanning and reconfiguration before we received our approval. Through the entire process the team at Architecture Republic was always polite, patient and professional in meeting all of our challenges with a great knowledge base and a willingness to problem solve new situations. We are looking forward to commencing the build and when finished look forward to celebrating our joint achievement with Architecture Republic and once again would like to thank them for their perseverance and professionalism. Tristan has been great to work with, from the initial concept phase (when we really had only a brief idea and outline to give him on what we thought we might want) right through to the FINAL set of plans we are now about to embark on building. Tristan has been easy to liaise with, patient, forthcoming with ideas and advice, and accepting of changes and alterations we wanted (and needed to to make to along the way). Tristan and Jess helped us think through two-stage plans for our house in Downer, ACT - splitting out a much-needed interior renovation with minor structural changes to make our home more modern and comfortable within a limited budget, and making sure that initial design choices would be preserved when we do a more ambitious extension a few years down the road. They helped us explore several options, teasing out the pros and cons and working through complications given the awkward placement of our house on a corner block. It took time to work through these issues, but we're very happy with the investment we've made in the planning and they were also able to connect us with great options for builders to manage our project.

We have a mid 1970s house on a large block in Belconnen ACT. Great views, but it made very little use of the northern sun, even though the house ran east-west. The family room was minute, and we wanted to enlarge the house on the northern side to provide a larger family room opening onto a deck,and an enlarged/renovated kitchen, laundry, bathroom and 2 bedrooms. We also wanted to open up other parts of the house and let the light and sun in. We engaged Jess & Tristan to design the extension, and to provide all required construction drawings for approval. They have been excellent to deal with at all times. They provided different design options which went backwards and forwards over an extended period before we finally settled on a design. There was a good & productive exchange of views from both sides, & we are very happy where the design has ended up. They have also assisted in the choice of exterior colors for the extension and roof replacement. All dealings we have had with them have been relaxed, upfront, responsive and professional. We have no hesitation in recommending Jess & Tristan for other projects, and would use them again for any future project we may have.

We are very pleased with the results of our work with Tristan and Jess. They took the time to understand our slightly unique situation, and our desires for a boutique home, and worked hard to come up with a range of options that best suited us. They liaised with the local council on our behalf to relocate the building envelope for our block, and manage the approval process - which made the process significantly easier for us. To engage Architecture Republic, and Tristan and Jess, is to engage a bespoke agency - this is not a fast and furious process, it's well thought out and considered engagement. This means it might not always be the quickest option, but the end result is excellent. We would happily work with Tristan and Jess again anytime.

We asked Tristan and Jess to design a new master bedroom with ensuite as an addition to our 1970's style house. We wanted something that both blended with, but also modernised, the existing structure without looking like an obvious extension (ie, did not want the 'cape cod' look). Inside we wanted an open plan room with plenty of light. The design they came up with met all our expectations and we couldn't be happier with the results. Tristan and Jess are highly professional. They listened to what we wanted and came up with a range of options for us to work with that could be adapted to our particular needs.We are so glad they were recommended to us and are more than happy to recommend them to others.

Dear Tristan and Jess, We thought it appropriate having marvelled at our newly gained lifestyle to put on paper just how grateful we are for the contribution your design has made to an outstanding home extension. Every morning when we walk into our new kitchen we pinch ourselves. Our brief was to give light and open up a dark ground floor, extending the inside living out. The results have ticked ALL those boxes and we have now enjoyed nearly all four seasons which highlight this design will suit us all year round. Entering into the design process it soon became very clear that you were willing to listen and were truly capable of meeting our needs and desires. You worked alongside us and our planning sessions were always valuable and enjoyable. You left no stone un-turned and always were true to your word; following up with answers and additional feedback. In no time at all, we could see on paper you had meet our needs and the design had us sold; that what we had hoped, was indeed achievable. You provided us with a Certifier and an Engineer and we know through our builder these were premium providers and we again felt blessed we were working with the best possible service providers going. Nothing was ever a problem and you both complemented each other’s skills sets. Again, thank you for undertaking to design our extension.
