Modern Design + Build Firm Licensed General Contractor (GB 98) with project managers, superintendents, a field crew and a fabrication shop crew. Our simple goal is to DESIGN, BUILD + FABRICATE environments that have a positive impact on people's lives. Modulus Design is fantastic. They have done four major home remodel projects for our family, spanning over the past fifteen years. There is no other company I trust like Modulus Design. Our home is our heart, and Modulus completely gets that. They are trustworthy, professional, communicative, and meticulous in their work. They will not rest until the job is done, and it is done right. And their design!! It is second to none. They have incomparable aesthetic, and the design+build+fabricate is such a perfect combination of their team's amazing skill sets. The design+build+fabricate model makes for seamless projects that you know will be done well from beginning to end. I cannot recommend them more highly. Five plus, plus.

Sibylle

We met with and subsequently hired Modulus for an addition and all around outside update of our home in the fall of 2021. Due to the pandemic and market demand we were fully aware of possible delays and tried to be mindful in our expectations. We were, however, not prepared for the amount of communication issues and general disinterest in our project. It took initially about a month to get the Asbuilt after the walk-through and measuring and another 2 to get two sets of very basic ideas/sketches without much architectural interest or finesse. We specifically wanted a design/build firm to utilize the expertise in both areas and get input for important decisions like flat vs pitched roof, vinyl vs resin windows etc. That is where we encountered the main problems – we were basically told to research those topics and then relay our decisions. A request for some cost input in flat vs pitched roof tuned somehow into a full cost estimate for the project etc, The preliminary sketches were still not updated with the simple changes we requested another 2 months later and the response was that the firm had overcommitted themselves and needed to finish the larger projects first and in general prefers new builds vs reno’s/rehabs at which point we had to part ways. Several thousand Dollars and 6 months later we cannot recommend Modulus and feel, we need to let other potential clients know about our experience to help with their hiring decision.

Sibylle, My Apologies. I am just seeing this................someone mentioned Modulus Design had a bad review on houzz.
In hind-site we should have not taken this project on due to our Design + Build work load. We thought we had time to assist with the unique requests for the project from a design/ build & cost analysis perspective. We need design to get costs and then we need subcontractors to provide estimates and our suppliers to provide quotes. On remodels of this nature, this process for us was once pretty easy and fluid with our internal operations and construction knowledge as well as our regular subcontractors whom we have worked with for years. For the past two years getting "PRELIMINARY" subcontractor quotes on remodels have been extremely difficult. They do not have the time or man power and can barely keep up with their current workload. Also, Suppliers take forever to get quotes for materials and the prices were constantly changing and only good for a day. Modulus turned away a number of large remodel opportunities as a result of the inability to perform and meet schedules. Labor shortages, material availability, material cost escalation, constant delays from subcontractors and window suppliers made it extremely challenging to finish projects that Modulus Design had under contract. We decided to focus on trying to keep our current projects on tract as best we could and choose our new projects very carefully. We did not hit schedules on existing projects but we did communicate and make sure our clients were well informed. We have had to work 10times harder to get things done and we did our very best to manage costs that were 100% out of our control. The construction Industry is still very challenging and subcontractors are still struggling with manpower. I could go on and on about the challenges. Meditation, exercise and being surrounded by good people and choosing good clients have made it possible to continue to do the great work we do at Modulus Design. I have a great team here at Modulus Design and could not be more proud of the work we do. Have a Great Day !

Waterwise Landscapes Incorporated

Modulus Design has done two large projects for us and we have been very happy with both. First they designed and remodeled our business office/shop (Waterwise Landscapes) in 2012. They created a wonderful workspace with lots of natural light and also helped us to set up a roof system that allowed us to capture all our roof runoff into a cistern that we use to irrigate our entire landscape. The space is energy efficient and quiet even though we are right on a busy street. They finished the remodel with an amazing fence they fabricated that ties the whole project together. After our experience with our office we hired Modulus to design and remodel our house that was built in the late 40's. The house had very little insulation,no central heating and was very out-dated. Walt and Christian listened to both our priorities and our budget to come up with a beautiful and functional design that really suits our lifestyle including a built in media cabinet, a fabricated sliding barn door . They created a much more open concept design that flows and gives us wonderful light and views into the gardens. They stayed within our allowed budget and finished almost to the day they predicted when they started. We love our 'new' house and have recommended Modulus Design to many people already.

Modulus Design has been a member of the Home Builders Association of Central New Mexico for 6 years. In those 6 years they have been professional, reliable and dedicated to the Albuquerque community. They are a part of our remodeling council and their remodeling jobs are always astounding. They won our Remodeler's Guide cover competition for their exquisite work. They are leaders in the remodeling industry and show great leadership in the building community in Albuquerque. We are grateful to have them as members of the Home Builders Association. Modulus Design was a wonderful company to work with. They were always professional and completely incorporated all of our ideas. We initially completed a major home renovation with them, which involved gutting some of the original house and adding a second-story addition as well as redoing the backyard. We were so impressed by them that we returned to them a few years later when we decided to redo our front yard and driveway as well as adding a wall and a carport. We were impressed yet again.
