Angus Mackenzie Architect

Angus has been a great architect for us. He fully understood our brief and we are now very happily living in our newly renovated house. Besides his design qualities, his cooperation with others involved, notably the builder, was great and it was always a pleasure to work with him.

Angus was commissioned to engage in a full knock-down/rebuild on a free-standing block in Alexandria, Sydney. He impressed us from the outset with his friendly demeanour and professional knowledge. Angus took on our brief very quickly and provided initial ideal on design, material and scope in a timely and impressive manner. It was in the dealings with council that Angus really excelled. Ours was a difficult project to receive DA approval for and Angus was instrumental in guiding us through the complexities of such a process. His communication with all external stakeholders was outstanding and he always kept us, the clients, in full knowledge of the progress of our application. Once DA approval was given, Angus was able to listen very carefully to our design preferences and work with us to come to some outstanding architectural drawings. The use of space, light, the parameters of the block; were all excellent within Angus' designs. He managed to design a house with a large feel and superb natural light where such elements were always going to be a challenge. The suggestion of building materials new to the market were made by Angus and we were keen to take them on. Such building materials proved to be an excellent choice for our project and this was evidence of Angus' careful thinking of the project from an end to end perspective. Angus was able to suggest a building group that suited our needs very well. We engaged the builders (Studio Constructions / SC of Miranda, Sydney) and could see from the outset that they had a very good working relationship with Angus. All trades working on the project were managed well by both SC and Angus. The ability of Angus to continuously engage with all relevant stakeholder during the build process was highly impressive. Finally, Angus really impressed in his ability to remain calm and process driven throughout all encounters with him. Even on the occasions when client frustration was evident, Angus was always calm and professional. He could explain reasoning behind decisions and alleviate any concerns or frustrations that we, the clients, had. This is so crucial in a process that is inevitably going to stretch a client's tolerance and patience on many occasions. Angus is a real 'people person' and this is a real attribute of his. I would highly recommend Angus for all architectural projects. He has excellent ideas on design, materials and the use of light and space. He liaises well with all relevant personnel and stakeholders involved in the end to end process of a build or renovation and above all else, he has an exceptional ability to remain calm and reassuring in the face of client anxiety.

Angus came on board with our renovation from the very beginning. We had ideas on what we wanted, but they were vague and unrefined. Angus was able to put down our ideas add some of his own to the mix and he was able to guide and inspire us with our thoughts and how things would work with with our environment and budget. The end result is our dream home. Well done Angus, superb job!

Angus provides his architectural services and also project managed the renovation of our inner city terrace. We started the process while overseas and consulted with Angus on a regular basis. He provided a unique and refreshing design that met the brief and continues to impress. I would highly recommend him, he was great to work with a good communicator and thoughtful about the project.
