Maxwell & Page Architects

Maxwell&Page have worked on two projects for us (one commercial - a shopfit and rebuild of heritage building, and one residential - a self-contained backyard studio). Both are beautiful. The main things we have noticed about these guys during the projects are: - They really understand council requirements and processes, especially DA process and anything heritage-related. - They know all these materials and products that are out of the mainstream but really useful (for example a remote controlled window opener for a high up window that was cheaper than the manual ones, or blinds that open up AND down, products that insulate better than anything etc etc). Often our builders or suppliers hadn’t heard of them but once we got them everyone would be really impressed. - They think things right through, really understand how people use spaces and what just *feels* good in a space and focus on that. Once you’re standing in it you really notice all the small considerations and how well they work! - They’re super friendly and committed. Lots of times Eddie and Jess would rock up on bikes after work to check on progress of builds. One time Jess saw me at the supermarket and offered a hand with kids and groceries!! It is hard to put into words just how thankful we are for Eddie at Maxwell & Page Architects. As first time home-owners, this was a completely new and daunting experience for us - entering the housing market and building our own home. We wanted to create something special and Eddie made that possible. He designed a house for us that has exceeded our expectations and two years on still brings us much joy. Eddie completely transformed our way of thinking about sustainability and what makes a house a home. We love that our home was specifically designed to meet our needs while being mindful of the environment. Eddie took our brief and created a masterpiece that has truly enhanced our lives. Something I am particularly thankful for was the way Eddie educated us about the different techniques he applied throughout the design process for example; passive solar design, using a body of water as natural cooling (in our case a pond), breeze-ways and framing views to name a few. This has helped us to really appreciate our home and to make the most of these precious features that make our house so unique. In a neighbourhood where sustainability and thoughtful design is rarely considered, we love that our home 'Dachshund House' is radically different, we will always be grateful for Eddie's expertise and passion.
