Anna Johnson

My name is Anna and I am a writer who draws. I grew up in New York and lived there for a long time. For many years I illustrated the books I published and, upon returning to Sydney, helped start Little Branch, a sustainable paper line. My experience has always served extremes; from fashion history to art history, from five star to dime store. I like heart shaped buttons and rococo chairs. I love minimalism but am incapable of it. I could live in a shell-lined grotto, a green Georgian row house or a tepee made of chintz. I believe in floral. This site is my atelier. A place to consider prints, visit the studio, find original works on paper, dig through my back pages in a weekly notebook, and follow a tangly line of ink, pencil, crayon and watercolour. When I finish working, I lay it all out on the floor and sit there with tea, it’s about 2am and all is very still. It is messy and quiet and the paper is still drying. Projects are on the boil. Collaborations beckon. Let me put the kettle on.
