We have trusted and relied on Michiel over the past 15 years to design on numerous occasions from new build to major renovations and have no hesitation to recommend his services to anyone. When working with Michael, you realize that not only only are we collaborating together on a creative and quality design, but also building a relationship that leads to transforming project. What impressed us the most was his dedication and support, in going the extra mile with us, to effectively address council issues and always striving to ensure we gain the best outcome.

Michiel and Chips converted our Victorian terrace attic into a new room, raising the roof to add more space and light and creating a fantastic 'penthouse' for my teenage son. Michiel had some great ideas to introduce architectural elements and finishes I never would have thought of to make it really special – the cabinetry and details are stunning. The guys hand built a staircase and reconfigured the rooms below so it all flows, so I now have a custom built office too. They were all lovely guys to have around. Although we lived through the reno, it was as stress free as possible.

Michiel Gerber has renovated/rebuilt two houses for our family, one a mint 1905 slate-roofed double-fronted free-standing Edwardian/Federation house in Stanmore, and the other a unique Art Deco/Modernist house situated inside a harbour bushland reserve in Greenwich. This house was built in 1940 by a notable Sydney architect as his family home. Both houses retained thier original features. Both were major projects, requiring preservation of the existing structures and unique original period features, with the addition of new rooms that integrated artfully with the architectural heritage of the structures. In the case of the Greenwich house, this involved building 3 new bedrooms without breaking out of the existing envelope. The design brief was to make the new rooms look and feel like they had been part of the original house when completed in 1940. In this endeavour Michiel succeeded, to the point where the house has been inspected and admired by a number of notable local architects and an architect from the Art Deco Society of Great Britain when he was touring Australia some years ago. Michael became a friend during these projects, listened respectfully to our ideas and suggestions, and was careful to keep the projects within the ballpark of the budgets available to us at the time. I am going to hire him for my next project, which is to add rooms at the back of the Stanmore house.
