Overcharged and under delivered. I would not recommend Brady. He seemed to not care about our project and routinely made errors which later blamed on us. It felt more like a professional change order artist than a contractor.

I am writing this review to share what a horrible experience we have had in dealing with Brady Van Matre. We first hired Van Matre Construction in Feb, 2018 to diagnose and fix a major water leak in our basement. It was determined it was a break in our sewer pipe, and it was fixed accordingly. We then also hired Van Matre Construction in April, 2018 for a full house remodel. Both projects were performed while we lived out of state. Approximately 3 years later (2020/2021), we again had a major water leak in our basement originating from a similar location as before. We reached out to Brady Van Matre and Van Matre Construction to inquire as to how to proceed (was there a warranty, etc?) as we did not have access to the original contract. The first conversation with Brady went fairly well, and he mentioned that if it was a sewer leak, then they would come out and diagnose and fix the issue in the coming week. However in subsequent conversations, Brady began to back pedal from our previous conversation, and given our past experiences with his communication (or lack thereof), we opted to move forward with another company to diagnose and fix the water leak. This most recent experience with Brady Van Matre has reminded me how awful it was dealing with him during our remodel, and how much neglect and disrespect we experienced as his clients back in 2018. There were multiple instances and documentation of Brady being over an hour late to in-person meetings (when we had flown to the state to be present). He created a weekly date and time for us to have phone conversations for construction updates, and he was very rarely available and would only half the time actually acknowledge our standing appointment time or even call/email back. He was rude and aggressive to other people we hired to assist in the remodeling, and it seemed generally, that he had a lack of respect and regard to anyone other than himself. In addition to the atrocious communication with Brady, he was supposed to provide all receipts for work done prior to payment by us. We continued to pay his bills on time with the assumption he would provide receipts accordingly. We never received most receipts, and the one time we pushed back and did ask for receipts, it took 13 days from original email (with numerous emails and phone calls in between without acknowledgement) to finally receive the requested receipt with a perceived aggressive attitude from Brady via email stating “Yes, we did not respond over the weekend. I have a morning full of meetings and will send you a response this afternoon”. Frankly, an unacceptable and rude response. Finally, our last, most serious concern in regards to our dealings with Brady and VMC is we were under the impression (and stated as such in our contract and contract says we would be charged for permits) that VMC would pull all permits for work performed in Boulder County. Not a single permit was ever pulled on anything done to our house.

Brady helped me and my husband on our fix and flip with an extensive crawl space repair project. His pricing was competitive and his crew did excellent job with engineers certification at the end. As a Realtor I will keep Van Matre Construction on my list of professionals to "go to" for structural issues.

We were having some settling issues and though we might need some helical piers so we called Brady out to take a look. He checked out our crawlspace and foundation and looked at some minor cracks. After his inspection, he told us that the settling was very minor and and jokingly said he could sell us some piers, but recommended we try to get some drainage issues taken care of and unless the minor crack in the wall ( which I had patched) doesn't come back we should not worry about it. That is the kind of honesty and integrity that convinced me that if I ever needed foundation work I would call him. I am an avid supporter of people who treat me right and that is why I wanted to take time to write this review.

After discovering a foundation issue with our house and garage, we conducted a search for an appropriate company to make the repairs. With due consideration, we decided on hiring Van Matre Construction to make the repairs. The repairs involved installing helical piers along 3 walls and braces on one wall in the basement. In addition to repairing the foundation, we also decided to install a foundation drain and sump pump. As you can see, the scope of work was quite extensive. Prior to the start of the project, Brady and Ulises (project manager) came out to the house and did a walk through to go over what would be done and discuss any last minute issues. This was much appreciated and alleviated any concerns that we had. The project started just prior to Thanksgiving and lasted until the second week of December, approximately 3 weeks. The crew consisted of Adam (the lead), Mike and JJ. Throughout this period of time, all three demonstrated exceptional knowledge, professionalism and courtesy while they did their work. If my wife or I had a question, it was not a problem to ask any of them the question. On several instances, I interrupted Adam while he operated the backhoe or front end loader and he immediately stopped what he was doing, climbed down from the equipment and clearly answered my question(s). He even indicated that he welcomed questions or inquiries so that the customer clearly understood what was taking place. I (the writer) strongly encourage you to ask questions if there is an aspect that you don't understand. Also, while work was being conducted, Brady and Ulises came out to the house to check on the progress of the work and answer questions or resolve issues that may have come up. Needless to say, the work started, progressed and was completed within the stated contract timeframe and cost estimate. All work was completed in a high quality manner. At the end of each day, the crew cleaned up the worksite trying to leave it in a spotless manner. Pretty hard to do when there was mud on the driveway but this was cleaned up. Any punchlist items were taken care of on the spot. We were very pleased with the outcome of this project and this is directly related to work ethic of Brady, Ulises, Adam, Mike and JJ. This company is highly recommended without reservation. If we need services like these in the future we would rehire them. They'll do you not just a good job but a superb job.

The Van Matre crew that built our addition provided excellent customer service, demonstrated great attention to detail, and continued to help tweak small things to make them right after the building part was complete. It was a pleasure to work with them and we LOVE our addition!

This firm has exceptionally nice workers; good work and very considerate and polite! Their expertise allowed us to choose a deck material that solved our major leaking problem. and the painters were the best I've had in years.

Brady Van Matre and his team at Van Matre Construction built a custom house for our family in 2008 and 2009. The team did an excellent job keeping the project on schedule. Staying focused on attention to minor details makes the house very functional and livable. Brady is always welcome to show our home to prospective clients. We highly recommend Van Matre Construction for custom home construction or a high end remodel.

As an architect, I have worked with many General Contractors on both residential and commercial projects. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of choosing your Contractor carefully. Do not choose one just because they have the lowest bid. I believe that you get what you pay for. The lowest bid is not always high quality work, and high quality work is not usually the lowest bid. Having said this, I would highly recommend Van Matre Construction, LLC for building your house. They provide professional services and quality construction, at a fair price. I have completed several successful projects with Van Matre Construction, LLC over the past 12 years. I am always pleased to find out that they have been selected as the General Contractor on a project, as I know that the job will be done correctly, professionally, on budget, and on time…..resulting in satisfied Clients and a successfully completed project. Having a good team for a construction project makes all the difference in the homebuilding experience for the Client. I always tell my Clients that when selecting a Contractor, they need to choose someone with whom they feel comfortable, because even with the best set of drawings and best construction crew, there will still be questions, and some issues that arise, and it is best to be able to work through those issues with a Contractor, with whom you already have a comfortable relationship and one that you feel that you can trust. I believe that Van Matre Construction, LLC fits that criteria. In my experience, Van Matre Construction is always quick to respond to questions and is respectful in resolving any issues quickly and easily that may arise during construction so that the project continues to run smoothly, resulting in a successfully completed project. Van Matre Construction, LLC is always on the top of my list for General Contractor recommendations to my Clients.

I highly recommend Brady Van Matre and Van Matre Construction for any level of construction or renovation/remodeling you may have in mind. We first used Van Matre Construction to renovate a former bicycle/ski shop into our veterinary clinic. We got bids from other contractors for our renovation just to be thorough but we were the most impressed with Van Matre’s pricing and the level of detail outlined in their bid. We were so pleased with Van Matre’s job with our veterinary clinic, their subcontractors, and the fact they take genuine pride in the quality of the work they do, that a couple years later we also retained them to remodel the kitchen and a large portion of the living area in our home. We have been delighted with the process and the results of both these projects. Our veterinary clinic, as well as the kitchen and living area of our home look amazing. We were absolutely delighted that the remodels stayed on schedule and within our budgets, especially since both renovation/remodels took demolition down to the studs and put it all back together again with new plumbing, electrical, etc. We really appreciated how Van Matre worked with us along the way to incorporate changes we wanted and how hard they worked towards keeping these projects on schedule and 'WITHIN OUR BUDGET'.
