What roof colour to use when your 2nd Floor looks out over it?
Comments (21)We went with Monument and I am delighted. I was worried about it making the house hotter, but not at all as we added some extra insulation while the roof was lifted. We look over our roof to Mt Dandenong and it really feels like we are floating above the rooftops now (previously had a lighter color). I have also noticed there is far less glare being darker. Pic below is not my best shots ... but you get the idea. Forgot to add we also have a flat cliplock roof and used a combination of Monument and Dune on the house....See MoreSliding door looking out into the backyard - necessity?
Comments (15)Funnily enough I was browsing house sales this past week and the question reminded me of one property which sold for an unusually low price for a house of that size etc where the only negative I could see in the listing was the lack of indoor/outdoor living. And that soon after watching an episode of Escape From The City where indoor/outdoor living was on the buyers' wish list. So 'indoor/outdoor living' was on my mind as I read the question. But I'm still not sure what's on the original author's mind? If people only put sliding doors where "it faces north or there is a pretty view" there would be a lot less sliding doors....See MoreCan you mix window styles on a facade, or best to stick to one style?
Comments (3)Is that a photoshopped pic of your place , or just a similar place ? There are too many styles trying to happen there IMO , not only the windows , and like oklouise says , somethings don't quite look right . I'd do bars ( frames ) about 200mm from the top of the two upstairs sets of windows , to match the downstairs style . Unlike ok lou , I don't like louvres -- they are drafty and don't really achieve much IMO -- a kid can put their hand and/or toys and/or your valuables out there , my personal preference is top-hinged with a folding stay at the sides , so they open 150-200mm but no further -- no-one can climb or fall in or out , can stay open overnight if warm , etc . I don't particularly like the upstairs balcony and gable , but I'm not keen on the entrance door treatment either , and without knowing what it looks like now , I may be tempted to replicate the 'double square' look of upstairs , downstairs too -- make it all the same theme . I'd keep the garage in the off-white , because if you look at the right side , both downstairs and upstairs look a bit boring IMO , with that flat dark finish -- the garage door done the same would add to the slab look . And while I'm being picky -- I personally think the black or extremely dark grey is too dark -- toned back just a bit would be better IMO -- you don't want it to look obviously grey , but a nice charcoal IMO . And finally -- the column bases look 'dirty' -- imagine how they would look in a gloss black tile on the top and also the 'skirtings' ( or a gloss black paint at a pinch ) ; with white gloss tiles where you have a light grey ( or , again , maybe the same paint as your other trim , but $5k of tiling would really add to those ) -- I think that would work with your black , or even a charcoal , 'main' colour . Anyway , just suggestions , and purely my viewpoint -- it's quite a nice but still simple design , just a couple of small things that would bug me if it was my place ....See MoreClean And Modern , or Art Deco , For My Next Home ?
Comments (34)Things are ticking along . We have a whole lot of long skinny flush-mounted LED taillights -- they won't be fitted until we take Frankie off the road to re-paint , as the existing lights come off , and these ones will need holes cut , the exterior repainted , then these lights bonded ( glued ) in . The Mercedes seats have had new certified mounts made ( being a safety item , we spent about $150 getting them certified -- keeps it legal , although there are literally thousands of vehicles out there that have had seats changed , and no certs ) and we made little 'boxes' that have walnut tops , and all the controls for the electric seats are in these ( on Merc cars , they are on the doors , but our auto sparky has made new mini wiring looms ) . We dropped the seats to the upholsterer last week , so in the next month or so they will be recovered -- a sort of bone/cream leather for the surrounds , and red leather with diamond stitching up the middles . This is almost what my cab looks like , mine has 1980's Falcon or similar bucket seats in a grey vinyl . I assume that was done so that there is only the 2 seats , and you can get through to the back , whereas in the pic with 3 seats , you can't . My interior is the same colours -- 3 different charcoal/grey tones on the dash , then a black on the doors ( why , I have no idea -- I would have thought charcoal would have been better ? ) . Once the seats are back and fitted , I am tempted to get the door cards redone -- do a padded charcoal vinyl that matches one of the dash colours , but do a 'scallop' from the rear of each door in the lighter leather , then a red maybe 150mm wide scallop in the middle . I feel that will tie in the doors , the dash and the seats better . The booth seating ( table and chairs basically ) in the rear will get done the same cream/bone and red leather , to tie it in a bit more . Which then brings up 1 problem . You may have noticed I have used a downloaded pic , and I was going to post a few 'before' pics of the cab and the rear , so you can see it in its 90's wooden and tacky lino glory , but that turns out to be a problem . All the 'before' pics I have are ones that the last owner e-mailed to me . I downloaded them all , they are still on my computer , I can look at them no problem . BUT for some reason , they aren't JPG's -- they show as 'Google Chrome Files' , and I can't work out if I can post them here -- I've tried but nothing happens . Are there any experts that know how to post these 'files' ( pictures ) ?...See MoreItalian Girl
