The clients' bathroom was 20+ years old and close up it was pretty tired. They bought the house nearly 2 years ago and decided they want it to be much

lighter & brighter as it was so dark with the old tiles & very little light from the small window. As you can see from this photo attached, they wanted the old shower removed (hob as well) so they could have a walk-in wet room look. The shower now has two shower heads, with a nib wall created for shampoo's etc.

Even if a bathroom looked okay I would still consider renovating a bathroom that's 20+ years old. Waterproofing in wet areas was not very thorough back then and quiet caveman quality compared to today's standard. Quite often there can be leaks in older homes that go unnoticed until it's too late and rot has set in. From a preservation point of view a renovation could save big $$ needing to be spent later on plus it can also increase the value of your home.

Actually, you are so right! As it goes the ensuite upstairs had a slow leak that the clients didn't know when they bought the property and it got so bad they couldn't use it as it was leaking into the ceiling below. So they didn't use it for 18 months until I came to renovate. There was a split in the membrane and a leaking pipe behind the shower taps, which had totally rot the floor and the supporting beams under the tiles, which was extremely dangerous as it had created a massive hole in the son's bedroom which they sealed up with black bin liners + DAMP. All in all, a whole new floor had to be constructed, re-sheet and plaster the ceiling below. You would never have known unless the leak didn't present being on a level above. So to cap off the two bathrooms downstairs were not properly waterproofed to today's standards, as well as the plumbing

Therefore this renovation did save them a lot of $$ in the long term as the other two bathrooms were about to fail big time too.

As I was using the same tiles, vanities etc and tradesmen at the same for both the bathrooms downstairs, it helped reduce the cost. I would say roughly $15,000 per bathroom and that also included getting the expensive Italian feature tiles and the scones/ wall lights weren't cheap either. If you design cleverly, you can purchase most items at a good price, then shell out a bit for the wow factor pieces!

It's funny how Black is so on trend at the moment but that Black Framed shower in the before looks so dated!

I think the black looks odd in the original bathroom because it clashes with the dark blue tiles and the walls colour.

Despite the tight budget, you have managed to liven up the space extremely well! The finishings are sleek and modern. Well done!
