High ceilings with or without high doors or extra high Windows
Comments (10)Definitely agree that tall windows and doors are an asset, and a fantastic selling point for later on if you decide to rent or sell. They keep with the feeling of space, which feels luxurious. The only thing is, with our Australian summer and all, keeping light out, depending on the direction the windows/doors face, may be of concern. Incase you were considering this point early on, too, just wanted to let you know there are block out long drop (240mm) roller blinds available. Comments (14)Depending on your budget I’d paint the cabinetry, replacing the doors if you can afford to and just painting them if the budget is tight. Just a thought, maybe it’s possible to fill that detailing in the doors to make them appear flat once painted. Not sure if it’s possible. It’d be a shit of a job but then you’d have solid wooden doors. And new handles. The same with the tiles. Paint is a cheaper option. New tiles would give a better finish. Remove the window valance. Perhaps resurface the benchtop with a product like rustoleum. Replacing the oyster light with something more contemporary. Open shelving can look great and lighten a space but think about whether this compromises your storage capacity. Everything will be on show. I think if you paint the cabinets then the floor won’t look so bad as there will be separation between the similarly coloured floor and ceiling. Cork is great in kitchens as it’s soft so it’s easy on your legs and back and forgiving if you drop things. It’s also making a comeback, as are timber ceilings. I would choose soft flooring for a kitchen over hard flooring. Kitchen floor tiles are a pet hate of mine. In my next build we’re putting rubber or cork in the kitchen. You’d struggle to put a double oven next to the fridge as it’s a thoroughfare. You’d also lose your pantry. Is two side by side 60cm ovens a possibility where your oven currently is?...See Morefloor to ceiling built-in wardrobes wanted
Comments (3)Try Gawler Custom Joinery. Our friends used them and rave about them. We also had some work quotes from them and they were really helpful and well-priced. We didn't use them in the end because we got a better deal with our builders joiner, but I would have otherwise. They work all through Adelaide (despite being up in Gawler!). Comments (4)Looks like an expensive build with lots of room. Are you trying to save money or build in cabinetwork that makes the most of the space and will look great? I wouldn't go with Ikea Pax with all of your corners. I wouldn't go with your builder who will probably use his standard cabinetmaker. I would go with a specialist wardrobe storage design and install company such as the Clever Closet Company for the best result. Do it once and do it right.
